Danilo has no way back at Rangers after ‘absolutely crazy’ Ibrox loan exit

Danny Rohl clearly had no faith in Danilo to aid Rangers in the William Hill Premiership title charge.

The Brazilian striker was sent out on loan in the final hours of the winter transfer window, joining NEC Nijmegen until the end of the season from Ibrox.

While the Eredivisie outfit have the option to buy the 26-year-old in the summer, there’s a possibility they may decide against it, leaving him with an uncertain future in Govan.

The centre-forward’s current contract with the Glaswegian outfit expires in 2028, but he could potentially have no way back after his departure.

Danilo desperate for Rangers exit in winter transfer window

Danilo was keen on leaving the Gers, with the transfer saga that ran until deadline day, leaving him nervous.

The Brazilian national was desperate to return to the Netherlands, and it would be surprising to see him wanting to come back to Ibrox.

Even if NEC Nijmegen decide not to sign the striker, there seems to be no appetite from him to return and be a part of Rohl’s plans.

Speaking to de Gelderlander, Danilo said, “That was absolutely crazy [the final days of the window]. I’m incredibly relieved that everything worked out. I have to admit, I was quite nervous.”

The attacker added, “The thought that the transfer might not go through briefly crossed my mind. I felt nervous every time my agent contacted me for an update. I desperately wanted to return to the Netherlands because I missed life here. The people are so friendly, and the surroundings are fantastic.”

As things stand, the German manager has Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and winter signing Ryan Naderi at his disposal, with fans expecting great things from the former Hansa Rostock number nine after his initial performances for the Govan side.

Chermiti has been unreliable since moving from Everton to the Gers, and supporters in G51 can’t believe their team paid £8million for him.

Rangers have also seen Miovski struggle, despite hopes that he could replicate the form he showed at Aberdeen before signing him from Girona.

Fans are now putting all their faith in Naderi and expect him to shoulder the goalscoring burden at the Light Blues.

Chermiti and Miovski have made it clear that they aren’t capable of being regular starters for the Glaswegian outfit, and it would make sense to replace one of them next summer.
