Barry Ferguson the voice of reason as much-needed Rangers perspective provided
Barry Ferguson has warned against overreaction after Rangers slipped up in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
The Gers could only manage a 1-1 draw with Motherwell on Wednesday evening, and were far from their best at Fir Park.
Another poor performance away from home has sparked concerns about whether Danny Rohl’s side can really mount a challenge for the title, with the business end of the season now upon us.
Rangers are now five points adrift of table-topping Hearts, and are at risk of falling further behind this weekend.

Barry Ferguson calls for calm heads at Rangers
Rangers took the lead at Fir Park through Nicolas Raskin, the Belgian midfielder slotting past Calum Ward in the sixth minute after being played through by Mohammed Diomande.
When Lukas Fadinger was then sent off for a challenge on Mikey Moore with just over 10 minutes remaining, Rohl’s side looked certain to claim all three points.
However, the Glasgow giants were denied at the last, with Stephen Walsh finding himself free in the box and making no mistake with the finish.
It was a hammer blow for Rangers, who had been leading for well over 80 minutes, but former player and manager Ferguson has called for calm heads around Ibrox.
Writing in the Daily Record, Ferguson revealed he is excited that the Gers are even in the hunt for the title, given where they were a couple of months ago.
“I’m actually starting to feel excited about the fact that Rangers are still right in the middle of this drama, given that they were looking in from the outside with their noses pressed up against the window just a couple of months ago.
“As hard as Wednesday night was to swallow in the moment, I think it’s time for a few calm heads.
“If anyone out there thinks that they’ll be the only team to drop points against this Motherwell side between now and the end of this season, then they’ve not been paying attention to what’s been going on at that club under Jens Berthel Askou.
“Honestly, it’s impossible to say just how impressed I am by them and the way they play the game under Askou.”
Rangers set for biggest test yet in title race
Rangers face table-topping Hearts on Sunday at Ibrox as they look to close the five-point gap to Derek McInnes’ side.
If they though a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell was a tough test, then they are in for a torrid time against the current league leaders.
Hearts showed incredible fighting spirit during the Edinburgh derby win over Hibernian on Tuesday evening, Tomas Magnusson scoring the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.
The Gers will drop eight points behind McInnes’ side if they are beaten at Ibrox, so will have to find a way to break the visitors’ fighting spirit to stay in the title race.
