Rangers have James Tavernier successor right under their noses, Danny Rohl would be foolish to ignore

James Tavernier has been a loyal servant for Rangers, but his time at Ibrox is coming to an end.

The captain is in line to play his testimonial after completing 10 years at the Gers, but this might be his last season in Govan.

As things stand, the 34-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues will renew his terms.

Max Aarons was signed on loan from Bournemouth in the summer, but the defender has failed to live up to expectations at the Glaswegian outfit, while Dujon Sterling’s consistent issues have been a frustrating fixture of his career in G51, leaving Danny Rohl with an evident priority to bolster his backline in the summer.

Findlay Curtis unexpected solution for Rangers after James Tavernier exit

Findlay Curtis moved to Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the season in the winter transfer window and has instantly become a key player in East Ayrshire.

Under the familiar leadership of Neil McCann and Billy Dodds, the 19-year-old started his first game for Killie against St Mirren on 11 February.

In a rather unusual move, the Scottish youngster was deployed at right-back at the BBSP Stadium Rugby Park, emerging as one of the catalysts in the home side’s 4-3 victory.

While the winger showcased his attacking qualities with one assist, two key passes, 85 per cent passing accuracy and completing his one dribble, it was his defensive contribution, as shown in the Sofascore graphic below, that will catch a few people by surprise.

Curtis struggled for game time under Rohl at the Light Blues, but it looks like McCann has big things planned for the youngster.

If the Scotsman continues to perform well as a right-back, then the Glaswegian outfit may have Tavernier’s successor right under their noses, and the German manager would be foolish to ignore him.

Ibrox faithful to have one criticism of Danny Rohl

Rohl has become a messiah at the Gers after getting them back into the William Hill Premiership title race.

Rangers fans have serenaded the German manager’s name at Ibrox, but while he’s done an exceptional job to bring stability back to G51, there are still some things he can do better.

One criticism that could be levied against the former Sheffield Wednesday boss is his reluctance to field academy graduates at the Light Blues, especially Curtis, who put in some exceptional displays before he was loaned to Kilmarnock.

The Scottish youngster would have surely been able to help the Glaswegian outfit in the second half of the season, but supporters in Govan will be delighted to see him get regular minutes under McCann.
