Rangers already have early Ibrox worry for Andreas Skov Olsen after recent developments

Danny Rohl not using Andreas Skov Olsen at Rangers is one thing, but playing the winger out of position is another.

The forward remained sidelined in the Bears’ 1-1 draw to Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday as Rohl decided to play Mohamed Diomande in a central attacking position instead.

From the short evidence seen so far at Ibrox, Skov Olsen has been utilised as an attacking midfielder, which has raised some eyebrows.

The Wolfsburg loanee, who arrived in Glasgow last month, was initially seen as a player who would start on the right wing.

However, Rohl’s preference to use Djeidi Gassama on the right side of the attack throws up serious questions regarding Skov Olsen’s playing chances.

Rangers could pass up £8.6m option to buy Andreas Skov Olsen

Skov Olsen will undoubtedly get game time at Ibrox, with his talent clear to see, but even if he does establish himself as a regular starter from now until the end of the season, that doesn’t mean he will perform.

Playing the Dane out of position not only harms Rangers in matches, but also his overall performances.

The Bears do have a £8.6million option to buy the attack after all, and it would be a great deal of shame if he wasn’t to return to Ibrox permanently in the summer due to a blurred image of his best self.

For as much of a genius as Rohl is, he needs to be careful of wasting away a talent like Skov Olsen, who Rangers were lucky to land in the first place.

What Motherwell proved for Rangers and Skov Olsen

In typical Gers fashion, it was a Celtic loanee who was the man to snatch a point for Motherwell in the draw. But Rohl didn’t help himself with his substitutes.

The Steelmen were banging on the door for a leveller all second half, and the Rangers boss had both Oliver Antman and Skov Olsen waiting there to be introduced.

Rangers’ second-half stats vs Motherwell:

Skov Olsen, in particular, could have brought the calmness that the Bears needed to progress up the pitch in the second half, as they only managed to get two shots on target.

But thankfully for Rangers, there is still lots of football to be played, and Skov Olsen could likely come back into the starting lineup to face Hearts on Sunday.

However, Rohl still needs to consider what positions he plays his attackers in.
