Rangers and Celtic in remarkable position after latest Hearts title verdict

Rangers and Celtic find themselves in a rather unique situation as they trail Hearts in the William Hill Premiership.

Former Jambos midfielder Ryan Stevenson is amazed to see the Old Firm clubs looking at the worrying about another team in the title race.

The Glaswegian outfits have let any other teams win the league since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen did it in 1985, and it’s surprising to see the Jam Tarts being close to breaking that monopoly.

As things stand, Derek McInnes’ team are five points ahead of the Gers, and Danny Rohl will undoubtedly hope to close that gap as Hearts visit Ibrox on 15 February.

Rangers and Celtic have not seen such pressure before in Scotland

Hearts have forced the Gers and Celtic to look at a team not from Glasgow leading the table at such a monumental time of the season.

With just 12 games left in the William Hill Premiership, McInnes will certainly be confident about going all the way and making history at Tynecastle Park.

The Light Blues showed a bit of frailty as they lost two crucial points at Fir Park on 11 February after Stephen Walsh’s 89th-minute equaliser for Motherwell, and the Jam Tarts will surely be looking to further break hearts at Ibrox in the coming days.

Writing in the Daily Record on 12 February, Stevenson said, “Hearts only need to focus on themselves from this point on. It’s up to Rangers and Celtic to worry about them for a change, which is just a remarkable thing in itself.”

The Scotsman added, “The pair of them have never been in a position like this. They’ve never experienced the pressure of looking up and seeing some other club at the top of the pile and racing away towards the finish line. So now the question is not a matter of can Hearts win the title. It’s more a case of can Rangers and Celtic cope under this kind of strain. Or will the pair of them start to crack and crumble at the same time?”

The Glaswegian outfits have no room for error if they hope to push Hearts all the way in the William Hill Premiership, and the coming weeks will determine what the prospects will look like in Govan and Parkhead.

Danny Rohl sabotages himself at Ibrox

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises clearly backed Rohl in the winter transfer window, signing Tuur Rommens, Tochi Chukwuani, Andreas Skov Olsen and Ryan Naderi.

The quartet have made an immediate impact for Rangers in recent matches, and the German manager must rely on them until the end of the season.

Rohl can’t keep picking underperforming players like Youssef Chermiti and Djeidi Gassama if he hopes to end the league title drought in G51.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has immense quality in the squad, but he needs to start picking the right personnel.
