Rangers almost got away with something ‘incredible’ at Fir Park – Keith Jackson
Rangers suffered a blow to their Scottish Premiership title hopes against Motherwell on Wednesday evening.
Rangers drew 1-1 with Motherwell at Fir Park, conceding an 89th-minute equaliser to drop five points behind table-topping Hearts.
Nicolas Raskin opened the scoring for Danny Rohl’s side after just six minutes, and the Gers looked to have the victory wrapped up when Lukas Fadinger was dismissed for a challenge on Mikey Moore.
However, the hosts rallied hard, and Stephen Walsh fired home late on for Motherwell to restrict Rangers to just a single point on the road.
Rangers didn’t deserve to beat Motherwell
Despite leading for well over 80 minutes and playing the closing stages against 10 men, Rangers never looked comfortable at Fir Park.
It has been a regular theme in the Gers’ recent league performances, failing to push home their advantage, and on Wednesday evening, they were punished.
Scottish Football journalist Keith Jackson believes that Rohl’s side never deserved to take all three points away from that game.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s hotline show, Jackson insisted that it was incredible that Rangers even got close to winning the game, given the performances of the two sides.
He said: “I don’t think there’s any debate about [Motherwell deserving a draw]. Having watched the game, it was almost incredible that Rangers were going to get away with a 1-0.
“It was absolutely honours even in that game for me, Motherwell deserved it.”
Danny Rohl must find solution to Rangers issue
Since Rohl took over from Russell Martin back in October, he has undoubtedly turned Rangers’ fortunes around.
However, they are still a long way from where they need to be, and their performance away at Motherwell on Wednesday evening proves that.
Jens Berthel Askou’s side had 63 per cent possession on the night, compared to Rangers’ 37 per cent, and dominated the majority of the game, especially in the second half.

Motherwell also had more shots, shots on target and corners than the visitors, and were more than deserving of the draw.
If Rangers want any chance of beating Hearts and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title, then their performances on the pitch must improve quickly.
That starts with a must-win game against Hearts this weekend. Anything but three points in that one and the title can be kissed goodbye.
