Michael Stewart and Derek Ferguson agree on Rangers result after heartbreak vs Motherwell

Michael Stewart and Derek Ferguson believe Rangers secured a good point against Motherwell in the William Hill Premiership on Wednesday.

Danny Rohl took on Jens Berthel Askou at Fir Park on 11 February, coming away with a 1-1 draw.

The Light Blues took a one-goal lead into the break after Nicolas Raskin found the back of the net in the sixth minute after a brilliant assist from Mohamed Diomande.

After consistent pressure from the Steelmen, the Glaswegian outfit finally cracked as 10-man Motherwell equalised through Stephen Welsh in the 89th minute.

Rangers should be happy with draw vs Motherwell

Rohl will be proud to see his team score against Motherwell, who have an impressive defensive record, keeping a clean sheet in their previous eight home league matches.

While the German manager would’ve been delighted with the Gers’ start, the Steelmen controlled the tempo for most of the first half.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss made a few tweaks at half-time, with the Light Blues subsequently pressing higher up the pitch and stifling the hosts from maintaining their dominance.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 11 February, Stewart said, “That’s a good point for Rangers, because Motherwell were so on top. Yes, there weren’t clear-cut chances, but they worked Jack Butland a fair bit. So that could prove to be a very good point for Rangers because Motherwell probably deserved more.”

Ferguson responded, “I agree. This is a good point because this is a Motherwell side that is absolutely flying.”

If the Glaswegian outfit want to win the league title, then these are the types of games that they undoubtedly need to win.

Every player on the pitch put in a formidable effort for Rohl as they had had to cope with the North Lanarkshire side’s intensity, but they eventually showed a slight lapse in concentration.

Ibrox player has uphill battle after return from injury

Rohl seems to have found the perfect formula for his midfield after the recent winter additions at Rangers.

The trio of Tochi Chukwuani, Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande worked very well at Fir Park, with the Denmark Under-21 international adding the physicality arguably missing earlier in the campaign.

Connor Barron had played himself into the German manager’s plans before he picked up his unfortunate injury, and he may have a mighty challenge to get back into the starting lineup.

Rohl now has plenty of quality options at his disposal for a pivotal second half of the season, but the Ibrox side need to win games against their direct competitors.
