Jack Butland may be in line for Rangers accolade despite Ibrox blunders
Rangers players would probably vote for Jack Butland as the Players’ Player of the Year this season.
Kevin Thomson believes that while the goalkeeper has had a few mishaps in between the sticks for the Gers, he’s been pivotal in their success so far.
Danny Rohl is back competing for the William Hill Premiership title at Ibrox, something that looked impossible a few months back after an abysmal start under Russell Martin.
The England international had lost his place to Liam Kelly towards the end of the previous campaign, but he’s shown once again why he’s trusted as the number one at the Glaswegian outfit.
Rangers players who could compete with Jack Butland for award
Nicolas Raskin arguably hasn’t had his most influential campaign at the Gers, but the midfielder is still a standout player.
The Belgium international has made a name for himself with his national team, although an apparent disagreement with Martin hampered the start to his campaign at Ibrox.
Butland has certainly been the most consistent player for the Light Blues, pulling off some brilliant saves, and his penalty record has also been immaculate.
Speaking on The Breakdown with Charlie Mulgrew, Thomson said, “Jack has had a couple of blunders, but then he has been a catalyst for Rangers. I think if the players picked a Players’ Player of the Year now to where we are in the current season, I think a lot of Rangers players would pick Butland.”
James Tavernier can also make an argument for himself as he leads the goalscoring charts for the Govan side in all competitions this season, but fans have their criticisms of him.
Mikey Moore is another player who’s come into his own after a tough start to the season, and the Tottenham loanee is now a key creative outlet for Rohl in G51.
Danny Rohl has new hero at Ibrox
Rangers made some astute winter additions to their squad in the winter transfer window, who could have a significant say in how the campaign ends.
Tuur Rommens, Tochi Chukwuani, Andreas Skov Olsen and Ryan Naderi have shown they’re capable of making an impact at Ibrox.

The former Hansa Rostock striker could particularly be the final piece of the puzzle Rohl has needed to catch up to Hearts in the William Hill Premiership.
Naderi may be the hero fans in Govan have been waiting for to break their league drought, but only time will tell how the situation in G51 unfolds.
