‘This is what people at Motherwell have told me about Rangers move for Tawanda Maswanhise’

Rangers fans may want to keep an eye out for Motherwell winger Tawanda Maswanhise ahead of the summer transfer window.

Maswanhise was being linked with a move to Ibrox in January, but the Zimbabwe international remained at Fir Park, scoring 13 goals for the Steelmen in the William Hill Premiership this season.

Danny Rohl will travel to Motherwell on 11 February in the league, and the German manager will be able to get a glimpse of the 23-year-old forward first-hand.

The Glaswegian outfit ended up signing Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock to bolster their attack, but they could potentially return for the Maswanhise in the coming months.

Motherwell adamant to keep Rangers Tawanda Maswanhise in January

Maswanhise didn’t leave Motherwell in the winter transfer window despite links to the Gers and Celtic because they had no intention of selling him, Andy Newport says.

The Daily Record journalist revealed that the Old Firm clubs may have had to pay “silly money” to sign the Zimbabwe international midway through the season.

It will now be interesting to see whether the Ibrox hierarchy will target the in-form forward at the end of the campaign.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 10 February, Newport said, “I spoke to people at Motherwell about that throughout the window. I think why there weren’t bids materialising was because it was made clear from Fir Park that they didn’t want to let him go. Therefore, to get him out of there, you’re paying silly money. And probably at that point you’re overspending and that’s what Rangers and Celtic have been accused of doing at times.”

The journalist added, “The summer window is a completely different beast in that sense. There isn’t the same pressure level, especially if you can get your work done early. I still think that could be something that could be revisited come the summer.”

Kris Boyd has urged the Govan side to keep an eye on Maswanhise, and only time will tell what the future holds for the attacker after an impressive spell at Fir Park.

Ibrox exit to open doors for Tawanda Maswanhise deal

Besiktas were linked with a move for Youssef Chermiti, who has struggled since moving from Everton.

Rangers fans haven’t been convinced by the 21-year-old after he’s failed to consistently find the back of the net this season and wouldn’t mind seeing him leave in the summer.

The Portugal Under-21 international’s exit will surely open the doors for the Light Blues to strengthen their attack further, and Maswanhise should be on their radar.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have shown they’re willing to spend money at Ibrox, and the Zimbabwean forward with 17 caps for his national side will surely be worth the investment.
