Scott Brown ‘devastated’ by Rangers developments at Ibrox

Rangers secured their place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals over the weekend.

Danny Rohl’s side beat second-tier outfit Queen’s Park in emphatic fashion at Ibrox, with James Tavernier netting a hat-trick as Rangers won 8-0.

Queen’s Park famously overcame their neighbours 1-0 in the fifth round at Ibrox last term, though they were not able to repeat the same feat this time around.

Ahead of the quarter-finals, Rangers have been drawn against arch-rivals Celtic, setting up a mouthwatering clash on home soil on the weekend of March 7.

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has since given his thoughts on both the clash, and Rangers’ recent form.

Celtic icon Scott Brown unimpressed by big Rangers win

Rangers went into Sunday’s cup tie having secured a comfortable 5-1 win against Kilmarnock last Wednesday.

The goals would fly in at Ibrox once again, with Ryan Naderi’s goal in the eighth minute setting the tone.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, former Celtic hero and current Ayr United manager Scott Brown said: “I was obviously devastated when I saw it!

“I was hoping for a take two and Queen’s to do it again. It’s always hard to go to Ibrox, especially when you’re a league below as well.”

Brown retired from professional football in 2022, and is remembered for his time with Celtic, where he made 407 appearances between 2007 and 2021.

“They’ve hit a vein of form at this moment in time, and they’re scoring goals and winning games,” said Brown on Rangers, as Danny Rohl’s side continue on a 10-match unbeaten domestic run.

“Rangers have put themselves in a great position. They’re in the hat now and we’ll see how far they can go in the competition.”

Just a week after the sides go head-to-head at Ibrox at the start of March, Rangers welcome their arch rivals once again as they fight for a place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Rangers have even more to play for across coming weeks after Celtic draw

After a complete turnaround following Danny Rohl’s arrival, Rangers have been in scintillating form.

From here, the next month will be huge.

After an away trip to Motherwell on Wednesday, Rohl’s side have the chance to take control of the Scottish Premiership as they welcome league leaders Hearts to Ibrox on Sunday.

With the gap at just three points, they will fancy their chances after a fantastic run of form.

And the calendar doesn’t settle much either, with two huge clashes coming against Celtic in just under a month.

This upcoming period, through February and early March, could well define the domestic season in Scotland, and Rangers have a huge chance to make a statement.
