‘Celtic fans must admit provocative Rangers reality after £20m latest at Ibrox’

Hugh Keevins is adamant that the balance of power is shifting from Celtic to Rangers.

Danny Rohl has made impressive progress at Ibrox since replacing Russell Martin, who led the Gers to one of their worst starts in the league for over 40 years.

The William Hill Premiership title race is wide open despite fans in G51 losing hope of getting anywhere close to the top of the table after an abysmal start to the campaign.

Celtic have had their own concerns at Parkhead, and while Martin O’Neill has steadied the ship after Wilfried Nancy’s debacle, their supporters are still disgruntled with the hierarchy after some underwhelming transfer windows.

Keevins claims Celtic fans may not like his assertion of the dynamics changing in the Old Firm, but that doesn’t change the facts.

The veteran broadcaster is seeing a significant shift in Glasgow and believes this season’s title-winner will determine whose approach was right in the winter transfer window.

If the Light Blues end up triggering the £8.6million option to buy Andreas Skov Olsen in the summer, that would take their recent spending to around £20m, something the Hoops fans will surely envy after seeing their team sign five players on loan and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a free agent.

Writing in the Daily Record on 8 January, Keevins said, “An Ibrox side added to during the window by four signings who, if all deals are made permanent in the summer, have been assembled at a cost of £20m. The outcome of the Premiership title race will determine whose approach to recruitment was the correct one.”

The journalist added, “It will also pass judgment on my assertion that the balance of power within the city of Glasgow is shifting in plain sight. Like Martin, I’m too old to be naive. When I initially wrote that phrase here, I knew it would provoke an immediate — and volatile — reaction. That is the nature of my business. I had a man on the radio last Sunday who told me he knew I did things like that to deliberately antagonise supporters.”

Celtic fans would’ve surely been envious of the recent business done in Govan, with Rohl now looking like the favourite to compete against Hearts at the top of the table.

Danny Rohl could be let down by one area in William Hill Premiership title race

Rangers sent Danilo on loan to NEC Nijmegen and replaced the Brazilian striker with Ryan Naderi.

The Gers paid £5.2m to Hansa Rostock to sign the German striker, and fans will hope he can be the solution to their goalscoring issues.

Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski have struggled to score consistently for the Light Blues this season, and that may be their downfall at Ibrox.

If Naderi isn’t able to provide a handful of goals at the Glaswegian outfit until the end of the season, they may struggle to keep pace with Hearts and Celtic in the league.
