Nicolas Raskin the winner at Rangers as contract agreement emerges away from Ibrox

Nico Raskin has been a regular for many years at Rangers.

The 24-year-old struggled earlier in the campaign, but when Rangers moved to sack Russell Martin, the Belgian was brought back into the side.

Danny Rohl has done much better at Rangers, and it is no surprise that the 24-year-old has played a key role in the recent spell of good form.

That has seen Raskin linked with moves away from Rangers, although the midfielder has remained at Ibrox with the transfer window closed.

The latest developments away from Govan look destined to work in Raskin’s favour, with his future potentially now in his hands.

Rangers learn outcome of contract talks elsewhere

Rangers were strongly linked to Jens Hjerto-Dahl, with reports emerging after the January deadline had already passed at Ibrox.

The 20-year-old midfielder came out of nowhere, but news broke that suggested that a deal would be done for him to join the Light Blues.

The Govan faithful waited patiently to see more of the Norway under-21 international, who had bizarrely been promised as an imminent arrival.

A deal never happened, and the Gers moved on, but now a contract agreement has been reached, which makes these reports all the more strange.

Tromso revealed on Friday that Hjerto-Dahl has signed a new contract until 2030, after putting pen to paper on a four-year extension.

As frustrating as that may be, it could prove to be superb news for Raskin and his future prospects in Govan.

Nicolas Raskin to thrive after Rangers miss out on Jens Hjerto-Dahl

The Norweigan would have come as an unknown quantity to many in G51, but it would have been interesting to see where he would fit in.

Hjerto-Dahl looks to be a box-to-box midfielder, and that would have likely seen him take the place of Raskin when he played.

Obviously, without him signing, that will leave the Belgian to be the main man in Rohl’s midfield, after thriving this campaign – as showcased by Sofascore.

If he can step up his level even further, it could prove to be a season that ends with the ex-Standard Liege man either penning a new Ibrox deal or getting a big move elsewhere.

It will all depend on his work now, but it could prove to be exactly what Raskin needed to encourage him across the rest of the campaign.
