Rangers confirm goalkeeper exit as arrangement cut short

Rangers are still conducting transfer business after the winter window closed.

SPFL clubs have until the end of February to complete domestic loan deals, meaning transfers are still going to be made over the coming weeks.

Danny Rohl will likely not be looking to further bolster his Rangers team though, after a successful winter window that saw the arrival of four new first-team stars.

Rangers pulled out all the stops to sign Ryan Naderi on deadline day, rounding off Gers’ winter of spending in style.

Rangers goalkeeper seals loan exit hours after Ibrox recall

Rangers have sanctioned loan moves for a number of their talented young players this season, with the likes of Clinton Nsiala, Findlay Curtis, Callum Adamson and Lewis Stewart all getting temporary moves away from Ibrox.

One of those youngsters also allowed to leave G51 this term is Mason Munn, who initially joined Championship side Dunfermline Athletic back in October of last year.

But, Munn was recalled from his loan spell at Dunfermline on Friday, after losing his role as Neil Lennon’s starting goalkeeper, having last turned out for them on 25 October.

However, his return to Glasgow was just a passing visit for now, as the 19-year-old has been shipped back out on loan on the same day.

As confirmed by Rangers on Friday afternoon, Munn has joined Scottish League Two side Forfar Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

Will Munn get playing time at Forfar?

Munn is a goalkeeper who is highly-regarded at Rangers, and will no doubt be eyeing up the starting job at Ibrox in the near future, perhaps as Jack Butland‘s eventual replacement.

For now though, sourcing regular minutes is the main focus, and his move to Forfar should present him with a strong opportunity to do just that.

Currently, Loons boss Jim Weir only has one senior goalkeeper on the books in 32-year-old Marc McCallum, after Neil Stafford’s loan spell ended in January and he returned to Hamilton Academical.

Therefore, at the very least, he will instantly become the number two, but given Munn has played Championship football this season, he’ll no doubt be expected to challenge and potentially take the starting jersey.

Forfar currently sit sixth in League Two, five points off the play-off places, so Munn is joining a side that will be aiming for a big second half of the season to try and push for a promotion opportunity.
