Rangers confirm loan deal cut short as Ibrox return now official
Rangers are still making tweaks to their squad after the winter transfer window has shut.
After weeks of trying, Rangers ended the transfer window on a high by signing striker Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock.
The good times kept coming this week after Rangers thumped Kilmarnock 5-1 in Scottish Premiership action to go to within three points of leaders Hearts.
Naderi made his debut for Rangers in the victory as Danny Rohl’s squad takes shape for the second half of the season.
Now, it seems that Rohl will have another option to call on, should he need it, in the coming weeks and months following a loan update.
Rangers recall rising star from Scottish Championship loan
In 2022, Rangers snapped up precocious goalkeeping talent Mason Munn from Irish side Glentoran.
The following year, Arsenal were reportedly tracking the 6ft 3in stopper, but for the time being, he remains on the books at Rangers.
Munn made his Rangers debut in a Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Fraserburgh in January 2025, keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 win.
To further his development, Munn joined Scottish Championship side Dunfermline on loan, but now, Rangers have brought him back to Ibrox.
After starting their first six league games, the 19-year-old has fallen out of favour at Dunfermline, with his last appearance coming back in late October.
He has either been an unused substitute or been left out of matchday squads entirely for more than three months.
As a result, Rangers have recalled the teenager, and it remains to be seen what is in store for him in the coming months.
Rangers overcome boos to intensify title race
Rangers put five past a sorry Kilmarnock side on Wednesday, and had it not been for a Jack Butland howler, they would have likely kept a clean sheet.
While the scoreline at full-time was emphatic, the mood around Ibrox at half-time, when Rangers held a narrow 1-0 lead thanks to James Tavernier’s early penalty, was quite negative.
In fact, a section of the home fans booed the Gers, as they were far from impressed with what they had seen in the first 45.

Following the victory, Rohl admitted he was surprised by grumbling from Rangers fans, especially as they have won seven out of their last eight games.
He said: “I love our fans, really, but today I was really surprised. In the last couple of weeks, we spoke about ‘we’, and ‘we’ want to be together, and ‘we’ need the crowd.”
As the former Sheffield Wednesday boss pointed out, it wasn’t all that long ago that they were eighth in the table and 10 points off of first-placed Hearts.
Rohl added: “In some moments we forget very soon and very quickly which position we were in 10 weeks ago, and it was not me, it was my group who came from a position we were behind, from 14 (13) points down to three points. Maybe this deserves sometimes a little bit of positive energy.”
Despite all the naysayers, Rangers are firmly in a Scottish Premiership title race.
