Mikey Moore takes huge step forward in Rangers career after what happened vs Kilmarnock

Rangers beat Kilmarnock 5-1 on Wednesday to move to within three points of league leaders Hearts, with Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore playing a key part.

Kilmarnock were reduced to 10 men when Dominic Thompson fouled Djeidi Gassama in the fourth minute, and the match became one-sided from that moment on.

James Tavernier, Bojan Miovski, Andreas Skov Olsen, Oliver Antman and Moore all scored as Danny Rohl recorded his biggest win as Rangers manager.

The Bears also handed debuts to Tuur Rommens and Ryan Naderi, who impressed at Ibrox.

All in all, it was an incredibly successful evening for Rangers, but one man stole the show with a fantastic performance.

Mikey Moore was excellent vs Kilmarnock

Moore started the campaign terribly under Russell Martin, although he has found a new lease of life playing more centrally for Rohl.

He played on the left wing against Kilmarnock, but kept popping up in central areas to stamp his authority on the match.

The 18-year-old registered an assist for Antman’s goal before putting a left-footed strike past goalkeeper Kelle Roos in the 93rd minute.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday evening , former Hibernian and Celtic midfielder Scott Allan couldn’t contain his praise for Moore’s performance.

He said: “He was an absolute standout; everything he did was with enthusiasm.

“He was on the front foot from minute one, and that’s what Rangers fans have been wanting to see from him.

“His performance was a huge step forward in his Rangers career, and he played with a lot of freedom.”

The Tottenham loanee took a while to find his feet in Govan, but it’s clear that he is now one of the most influential players in Rohl’s squad.

The lack of depth at left-back in the first half of the campaign was an issue for the Bears, with Jayden Meghoma being their only natural option in that position.

However, the signing of Rommens from Belgian side Westerlo gives Moore a more attack-minded player with whom he can strike up a partnership.

Danny Rohl has to use Tuur Rommens and Moore together

The left-back has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Gers that will keep him at Ibrox until 2029.

Rommens was excellent against Kilmarnock, and Rangers fans were delighted with what they saw from him on his debut.

Both players linked up incredibly well in the second half, and Rommens’ introduction allowed Moore to put the game beyond doubt with his goal contributions.

The Light Blues haven’t always been fluid in attack, but they now have a clear solution to any issue on the left-hand side.

Rohl has to start Rommens and Moore together in the foreseeable future, and if he does, then Rangers may reap the rewards from their brilliance.

Allan added: “I think there was a really good connection with Moore and Rommens, who was fantastic and dynamic.”
