Danny Rohl ‘really surprised’ as Rangers fans told to pack it in

After Hearts’ 1-0 loss to St Mirren on Tuesday night, Rangers had the perfect chance to close the gap in the Scottish Premier League title race.

Danny Rohl’s side took that opportunity with both hands, as Rangers ran out as 5-1 winners against Kilmarnock.

New boy Ryan Naderi did not start, but the German did show promise after featuring off the bench. Naderi was said to offer Rangers something different up top.

Additionally, Naderi was praised for his work rate. It would not be a surprise to see him start in the Scottish Cup on Sunday now.

While the 5-1 win will certainly delight Rohl, the Bears manager was not happy with everything he saw on the night, particularly off the pitch.

Danny Rohl surprised by Rangers fans’ reactions vs Kilmarnock

After learning of Hearts’ result and the fact Celtic’s game against Aberdeen was postponed, there was bound to be some nervousness surrounding Rangers.

The chance to go just three points behind the league leaders and create a gap of three points above Celtic, even with a game in hand, was a golden chance for the club.

Despite scoring early after Rangers were awarded a penalty after five minutes, the tension in the crowd remained, much to the displeasure of Rohl.

Speaking out after the match, the German admitted he was confused by the reaction, stating: “Yeah, I’ll be honest with you, I couldn’t understand this.

“I love our fans, but today I was really surprised. Over the last couple of weeks we’ve spoken about ‘we’. We want to be together. We need the crowd.

We led very early in the first half, but I was really surprised [by the tension in the stands].

Rangers fans need to get behind the team

If number 56 is to come home to Ibrox, then Rangers will need their supporters fully behind the team in each and every match left of the season.

Nerves are inevitable when you consider what is currently at stake this season, especially with the pressure of hunting down Hearts.

However, those nerves need to be left at the turnstiles. Once the referee blows the whistle, the fans need to show the same commitment as the players, and vice versa.

Rangers’ home record in the Scottish Premier League

With the two working hand in hand, this can end up being a special season.

A loud and proud Ibrox is a weapon in itself. Rohl is right to be surprised when the game ended up turning out as a routine win for the G51 outfit.

Fans could risk making their manager angry, and that is not ideal with what is on the line. It is time to get fully behind this team.
