Thelo Aasgaard proves Danny Rohl wrong, what he did for Rangers vs Kilmarnock must be final straw

Rangers ran out emphatic winners over Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

It was a Wednesday evening to remember at Ibrox, as Rangers ran out 5-1 winners over Kilmarnock.

The game almost immediately spun in Rangers’ favour after just a few minutes too, as Kilmarnock defender Dominic Thompson was sent off after bring down Djeidi Gassama in the box.

James Tavernier stepped up and converted the penalty kick, and from there Rangers eventually put the result beyond any doubt, with four goals scored in the second half.

Thelo Aasgaard must have lost Danny Rohl trust after Kilmarnock

It was a night that saw many Rangers players receive plaudits, with the likes of Mikey Moore, Mohamed Diomande and Gassama all showing their class.

However, there was one Gers star who came out of the game with potentially less credit with the Ibrox faithful, and perhaps his manager too, then what he’d entered with: Thelo Aasgaard.

Aasgaard has come in for criticism numerous times this season, with his decision-making and application called into question by fans and pundits alike.

Rohl has been sticking by Aasgaard though, but he did drag the Norwegian off on the hour mark in the win over Killie on Wednesday night.

As showcased in the above graphic from Sofascore, the 23-year-old registered just one shot on target in 60 minutes, made one key pass and won none of his duels.

Many Rangers fans appear to have reached their limit with the summer signing from Luton Town too, and Rohl now has a big decision to make.

There’s no doubting he’s a talented player, but with the Gers now closing in on Hearts, Rohl needs as many players on the pitch he can trust to perform, and Aasgaard just isn’t one of those at the moment.

Aasgaard has host of players snapping at his heels

The win over Kilmarnock was a brighter occasion for the likes of Andreas Skov Olsen and Oliver Antman, who both came off the bench to score.

Ryan Naderi also showed promise when replacing Aasgaard for his first 30 minutes in a Rangers shirt, showing the kind of strength in depth Rohl now has in attack.

This should worry Aasgaard, as he will now know that there is sufficient quality in the side to see him lose his place in the team, and performances like the one against Killie won’t serve him well in his fight to keep his spot.
