Rangers had paperwork in pipeline for another deadline day signing at Ibrox before collapse

Rangers had a busy winter transfer window and missed out on multiple targets.

The Gers made a number of signings as January kicked off, with Tochi Chukwuani swapping Sturm Graz for Rangers for around £4.3million.

Tuur Rommens and Jonas Skov Olsen followed him through the doors at Rangers, before an eventful deadline day kicked off at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl was hugely keen to bring in a striker, with Ryan Naderi being one of many forward targets at Rangers before his move was eventually sealed.

Another deal was already in place for a number nine in Govan before Naderi was eventually brought in from Hansa Rostock.

Rangers filed paperwork for striker before Ryan Naderi deal

Naderi’s announcement video took a swipe at Celtic, so he’s already in the good books with the Bears faithful.

The German is a total unknown quantity in G51, even after scoring eight across 18 appearances in the 3. Liga this campaign.

Someone who was more recognisable at Ibrox is Cameron Archer, after many years playing in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Southampton – with Sofascore comparing the two below.

The Saints forward emerged as a target, but a move for the Englishman ultimately hinged on a number of factors, including Adam Armstrong’s move to Wolves.

The Rangers Review have now reported that after a failed attempt to sign the 24-year-old, a new deal began to progress, and the required paperwork was in the pipeline.

It eventually became clear after that a move to Govan wouldn’t be sanctioned in the end, sparking Rangers to open talks with Hansa Rostock for Naderi.

Cameron Archer transfer fail opened door for Naderi signing

It is unclear how successful the 22-year-old could prove to be in the Scottish Premiership after moving from the third tier of German football.

Rohl clearly backs the new number 20 at Ibrox, but there is no guarantee that he hits the ground running.

Archer may have proven to be a more sure thing in Govan, although if Naderi proves to be superb, it will arguably be thanks to Southampton’s stubbornness.

The Saints were central to a deadline day transfer merry-go-round featuring moves at Wolves, Crystal Palace and AC Milan.

Armstrong joined the Old Gold, Jorgen Strand Larsen joined Palace, but Jean Philippe-Mateta didn’t get his San Siro switch.

Rangers didn’t get Archer in the end, but did get hold of Naderi, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on under Rohl moving forward.
