Rangers announce yet another player exit as Sheffield United complete double Ibrox swoop

Rangers have sanctioned a second transfer to Sheffield United.

Joe Rothwell’s move to Sheffield United appeared to be in doubt ahead of the final stages of the winter transfer window, after the deal went radio silent well after the deadline.

However, 30 minutes after the English window closed, the Blades announced the midfielder’s arrival on an 18-month contract.

But after the latest transfer announcement, Rothwell won’t be the only Rangers player moving to Bramall Lane, with terms of a second deal now revealed.

Rangers youth star set for Championship move

With Rangers well and truly back in the Scottish Premiership title race, Danny Rohl has had very little room to afford minutes to the youth players in Glasgow.

Findlay Curtis was often utilised off the bench, but his move to Kilmarnock showcased that younger players weren’t going to get much of a look-in for the rest of the campaign.

Another young player to feel the brunt of that is Chris Eadie, who had been out on loan at Stirling Albion this season.

The 18-year-old had two goals and four assists in League Two, sparking a few questions as to whether he could be the next youth star to step up at Ibrox in the near future.

However, that is not to be the case after Rangers announced that he has now completed a permanment move to Sheffield United.

The move is subject to international clearance and will see the Light Blues pocket an undisclosed fee for his exit.

Eadie will not link up with Kalvin Phillips, who was linked with a late move to Rangers in the winter.

Have Rangers made a mistake with Chris Eadie?

Eadie was never going to make the squad for Rangers this season, but his form for Stirling Albion showcased the quality that he had, albeit in League Two.

The teenager has already been capped by Scotland at youth level, and actually won the Rangers Academy Goal of the Season award last time out for his strike against Celtic.

As always with youth players at Ibrox, he would have needed time to make the step up to first-team level, but with the lack of goals from their current frontmen, he may have been worth a risk in the near future.

However, his move to Bramall Lane signifies the end of his time at Ibrox, and there will be some expectation that a sell-on clause has been included, though this is unconfirmed.
