Rangers agreement in place for new striker after weekend talks as twist emerges

Rangers have reached a verbal agreement to sign Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock, but there is one big caveat.

Naderi has long been considered Rangers’ top target as Danny Rohl desperately seeks another striker at Ibrox.

Rostock rejected Rangers‘ bid in excess of £3million last week, despite that matching the German third-tier side’s valuation.

But as per Chris Jack for the Rangers Review, the Gers have reached an agreement with Rostock to sign the 22-year-old.

Ryan Naderi’s Rangers debut will have to wait

While it is a positive development that Rangers have reached a breakthrough in talks with Rostock, Naderi will not be arriving at Ibrox on deadline day.

In fact, he will not officially arrive in Glasgow until the summer window as he will spend the rest of this campaign where he is.

Rostock made clear they wanted to keep hold of Naderi for the remainder of 2025-26 and it appears Rangers have signed off on that compromise.

Talks between the clubs are said to have taken place over the weekend and the framework for a deal was put in place.

The same report adds that Rangers are also still in for Southampton striker Cameron Archer, though there are plenty of moving pieces with regards to that one.

Cameron Archer and Naderi double deal would be ideal for Rangers

At risk of stating the obvious, signing both Naderi and Archer would be the dream scenario for Rangers.

Naderi will not be arriving until the summer, whereas Archer would be ready to go right away if signed.

As highlighted by the Sofascore graphic above, Naderi is a far livelier player in the final third of the pitch.

However, it must also be factored in that he is playing in the third tier of German football, rather than the second tier of English football.

It may well be that the pair complement each other well if used in tandem. If nothing else, it will give Rohl two additional options to choose from.

And as Sunday’s stalemate with Hibernian goes to show, the Gers could do with all the help they can get their hands on right now.
