Danny Rohl to decide on Oliver Antman exit hours after Rangers stars test vs Hibernian

Oliver Antman’s time at Rangers has not gone to plan so far, to say the least.

The Bears signed the winger from Go Ahead Eagles in the summer, for a deal that amounted to £4million after add-ons.

Antman came to Ibrox a man in form after he had a standout season in the Eredivisie, padding 22 goal involvements, but for one reason or another, he hasn’t hit the ground running at Rangers.

The 24-year-old has been unable to score for the Gers yet, and Rohl may have a difficult decision to make.

That decision could soon be made after Rangers‘ game against Hibernian on Sunday.

Danny Rohl could sanction Oliver Antman loan after Hibs game

Talk of Antman joining Feyenoord has been dismissed, but the forward potentially leaving Ibrox in the coming days has yet to be fully ruled out.

The Finnish international missed all of December through injury, and made his first appearance since November when he played thirty minutes in Rangers’ 3-1 defeat to Porto on Thursday.

Antman has featured on the bench in another three of the Bears’ fixtures in January, but business done in the winter market could have shifted the picture.

Rangers already have the likes of Andreas Skov Olsen, Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard, Djeidi Gassama, and Nedim Bajrami as wide options. There’s also no reason why they can’t add more in the final stages of the window.

There’s now surely an expectation that, given all the factors that have already been seen this campaign, Antman won’t be able to get much game time.

The forward is expected to be in Gers’ squad to face Hibernian this weekend, which falls just over 24 hours before the winter market closes.

It could be that Antman is handed a small window of opportunity to finally impress Rohl, but if he doesn’t, there would be plenty of clubs who would take the right-winger on loan.

‘New dimension’ attacking claim on Antman now looks silly

It’s not known how much involvement Russell Martin had with signings in the summer, especially in the case of Antman.

However, one thing we already know is that nearly every single Rangers player looked worse versions of themselves under the ex-Gers boss.

But when Antman was announced in the summer, Martin may have heaped way too much praise on the winger’s shoulders from the off.

Martin said, as quoted by BBC Sport: “He [Antman] is a player we have followed closely, and his versatility and attacking qualities will add a new dimension to our squad. I look forward to seeing the impact he can have this season and in the future at Rangers.”

So far, that impact has been nothing but taking up space on the treatment table at Auchenhowie, but the next few days could be telling for his future at Ibrox and beyond.
