Rangers turn to Cameron Archer transfer amid ‘unlikely’ Joel Piroe developments
Cameron Archer has emerged as the latest striker target for Rangers.
The arrival of a striker could be decisive when it comes to Rangers’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title this season under Danny Rohl.
In that regard, several players have been linked with a move to Ibrox, including Hansa Rostock’s Ryan Naderi as well as Leeds United’s Joel Piroe.
However, with both of those deals stalling at the current moment, the Gers have turned their attention to Archer as a potential option.

Cameron Archer to join Rangers?
James Tavernier is currently Rangers’ top scorer, and that is a clear showcase of the issues that Rohl will have to overcome if he is to deliver success to Glasgow this season.
However, the 49ers are looking to rectify those concerns, and the latest report from Alex Crook states that Rangers have turned their attention to Archer.
The 24-year-old has been a bit-part player at Southampton this season, with just six starts in the Championship and 19 appearances in total.
In that time, Archer has managed two goals so far this season, having not managed to bag more than 11 in a single campaign since he did so for Middlesbrough back in the 2022-23 season.
Neither he nor Adam Armstrong have had the desired impact since the Saints’ return to the Championship, with an exit for at least one of them looking likely before Monday’s deadline.
What’s the latest on Joel Piroe’s move to Rangers?
Piroe has also been linked with a move to Ibrox, just a week after he was rumoured to be in talks over a loan move to Celtic.
However, with the 49ers at both sides of the negotiations, a move to the Light Blues is certainly more feasible.
With that said, Lukas Nmecha’s injury at Elland Road has cast doubt over whether the Dutchman will be allowed to leave unless the Whites can sign a replacement.
And in that regard, Graham Smyth has stated that it is “unlikely” that a move to Ibrox will materialise in the next few days.
However, with the Gers already working on a deal for Naderi, and now having shown an interest in both Piroe and Archer, there will be optimism that at least one deal can be struck.
Rangers have until 11pm on 2 February to conclude their winter business.
