Emmanuel Fernandez to make millions for Peterborough United as new Rangers clause revealed

Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez’s potential exit could benefit Peterborough United as well.

Rangers signed Fernandez from the EFL club last summer, in a £3.5million deal, and new details about the Ibrox move have emerged.

Fernandez had a tough start to life in Govan, struggling to play under Russell Martin, but he has been a mainstay for Danny Rohl.

That has led to significant interest in his services, and two clubs could be set to profit after a new reveal.

Darragh MacAnthony reveals Fernandez clause in Rangers deal

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen have been credited with interest in the Rangers ace, but that could come at a cost for the Light Blues.

They would not keep all of the profit, as Peterborough’s chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, has revealed that there was a sell-on clause in the deal to take the 24-year-old to Auchenhowie.

He expects Fernandez to make his club millions in the near future, claiming that a sale away from the Gers is on the cards.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 29 January, he said: “I’m very happy to say we got a nice sell-on and we’ll make millions more, and I think he will go on again.”

Why Rangers cannot sell Fernandez anytime soon

Fernandez has emerged as a key figure under Rohl, popping up with crucial goals in several moments for the Bears.

He has notched four goals so far in the Scottish Premiership, which could prove crucial as the Gers chase the title.

They cannot allow him to leave, simply due to the fact that he is so prolific in the air, which may be the difference maker in the title race over Hearts and arch-rivals Celtic.

His defensive abilities are not too shabby either, as he wins 59 per cent of his ground duels and 77 per cent of his aerial duels, per Sofascore.

The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, the Govan club’s majority owners, cannot get into the mindset of selling their best players anytime soon, as the Gers need to keep adding quality to get back to where they want to be regularly.

If they show that they are willing to let their superstars depart, that could open the floodgates and lead to multiple exits and the squad being decimated, which would hamper all of Rohl’s progress so far.
