Monaco seduced by Djedi Gassama as Rangers respond to late new bid
Rangers star Djedi Gassama is attracting interest before the winter transfer window shuts.
As Rangers position themselves nicely in the Scottish Premiership title race, all Gers fans’ eyes are on whether or not more names will come through the Ibrox door this week.
So far, Rangers have secured the statement loan signing of Andreas Skov Olsen from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for the rest of the season.
Rangers have also recruited Tuur Rommens from Westerlo, while Danny Rohl’s first signing of the window was Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz.
With less than a week left in the window, Rangers are trying to strengthen their squad, but it seems they may have to fend off interest from a European giant for summer signing Gassama.
Rangers respond to loan offer for Gassama
Rangers signed Gassama from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for around £2million on a deal until 2029, and so far, he has had a solid first half of the season.
A return of seven goals and three assists in 39 games does not make for bad reading, but the vast majority of his contributions came back in July and August in their unsuccessful Champions League qualifying campaign.
Gassama has been linked with the likes of Villarreal, and now, Monaco are interested in his services.
That is according to Foot Mercato journalist, Sebastien Denis, who claims Monaco have tried to initially sign the winger on loan with an obligation to buy him this summer.
The former Paris Saint-Germain youngster has been attracting interest from Ligue 1, with many seduced by his “speed and attacking prowess”.
However, despite their best laid plans, Rangers are said to have rejected the offer and have no desire to lose him this month.
Despite the riches of Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, who reportedly is a multi-billionaire, Rangers are not budging on this transfer.
Who else are Rangers trying to sign?
The Scottish giants appear to be keen on another Championship raid, with Rangers linked with Gassama’s former Sheffield Wednesday teammate Yan Valery
Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl is said to be on Rangers’ radar, while Rohl may try to use his good relationship with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick to recruit winger Dani Rodriguez.
Rohl worked under Flick during his time at Bayern Munich and the German national team, but it may take more than that to convince the 20-year-old to head to Ibrox.

One man who won’t be heading to Rangers is Sunderland’s Dan Neil, as Ipswich Town are primed to win the race for his loan capture.
If Rangers are to lift their first league title since 2021, more bodies through the door may be needed in the coming days.
