Willie Collum to demand explanation after VAR howler in Rangers vs Dundee FC

Rangers’ clash with Dundee FC was delayed due to an issue with VAR.

Rangers secured a 3-0 victory at home to Dundee on Sunday, with James Tavernier’s penalty, and two injury-time strikes from Danilo and Djeidi Gassama sealing the points.

With Celtic and Hearts securing a point a piece in their clash, it was even more crucial that the Gers saw out the win to avoid falling adrift in the title race.

However, the game wasnt without some controversy, some of which started before the game actually got underway.

VAR delays Rangers vs Dundee FC kickoff

As Celtic had taken a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute away to Hearts, Rangers’ clash with Dundee FC was only just getting underway.

The reason for that was that the officials were experiencing an issue with VAR, seemingly preventing them from communicating.

After a six-minute delay, the game got underway, but Keith Hackett expects Willie Collum to investigate the issue.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “You cannot make this up. You expect all the lines of communication that are required for VAR and any other forms of technology to be in place at least one hour before kick-off.

“Willie Collum, head of referees, will no doubt be in touch with the company that delivers the technology for an explanation. Martin Atkinson, a former Premier League referee, is head of VAR in Scotland.

“The referee at the game, with the approval of both teams, made the correct decision to proceed.

That wasn’t the only VAR controversy at Ibrox

The opening stages of Sunday’s clash started without VAR in operation, but in a timely fashion, it became functional after Rangers found the back of the net.

Tochi Chukwuani turned away in celebration after scoring his first Rangers goal, only to see the flag go up on the far side for offside.

Replays showed it to be the correct decision, and yet it still took almost two minutes for play to be restarted.

VAR has come in for plenty of criticism in the Scottish Premiership this season, and after another shambles at Ibrox, the use of it will no doubt be questioned again in the near future.
