Rangers surely have concrete answer on Tawanda Maswanhise transfer as Danny Rohl targets new striker
Danny Rohl is still aiming to sign a striker in the winter transfer window.
Danilo is on the transfer list at Rangers, and Rohl may be desperate to sell him to pave the way for a new number nine to walk through the door.
Motherwell striker Tawanda Maswanhise has been linked with joining Rangers, and he has proven that he has exactly what it takes to be clinical in the Scottish Premiership.
The Zimbabwe international scored his 16th goal in all competitions this season by finding the back of the net in Motherwell’s 4-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.
As he continues to excel, Rohl has less and less time to secure his services before the transfer deadline on 2 February.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou dismisses Tawanda Maswanhise exit rumours
Maswanhise featured twice at AFCON and scored in Zimbabwe’s final group game against South Africa on 29 December.
He has scored in each of his last four games, and there is no striker in Scotland who is currently performing better than the 23-year-old.
After their latest win on Saturday, manager Jens Berthel Askou addressed the speculation around Maswanhise‘s future.
He said: “The transfer talk is mainly in the media, not in this building and not with him or his agent.
| Stat | Tawanda Maswanhise |
| Minutes played | 60 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Shots | 4 |
| Touches in opposition box | 9 |
| Pass accuracy | 100% |
“He’s doing really well. When I took him off, it was like telling your son it’s time to go to bed – he wanted to play another half hour.
“I got a little smile when I told him that we were just looking after him, he’s been to AFCON and not been rested much since he came back.”
Of course, every manager is going to say that about one of their most prized assets.
However, with Motherwell fourth in the table, it seems unlikely that they’ll let their talisman move to Govan.
With so little time to find a potential replacement, Askou would only sanction his departure in the summer, meaning the Bears will have to turn to other transfer targets instead.
Rangers can’t afford to pass up on Maswanhise while Celtic are interested
Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski both need to up their performance levels while the transfer window remains open.
Maswanhise has been phenomenal in all aspects for Motherwell, and he has certainly been a much bigger handful for opposition defenders than Rangers’ current options.
If he continues to impress under Askou, then several other clubs could join the race to sign him in the summer.
| Players | Goals scored |
| Tawanda Maswanhise | 11 |
| James Tavernier | 5 |
| Emmanuel Fernandez, Youssef Chermiti, Thelo Assaagard | 4 |
| Bojan Miovski, Mikey Moore, | 3 |
As it stands, Celtic are also interested, and the worst outcome would be for the 23-year-old to join the Old Firm rivals.
Rohl needs to offload Danilo before a move can be made for any striker, and it looks increasingly likely that he may have to wait until after the season.
It seems as though Motherwell simply won’t let him go in January, but every player has a price, and Maswanhise would be one of those who would be worth breaking the bank on.
If the Bears manage to pull off the unlikely move, it would be a real statement of intent as Rangers strive towards the aim of winning the Scottish Premiership title under Rohl.
