Jack Butland reacts as headline Manchester United agreement surfaces

You can be forgiven if you forget that Jack Butland was once at Manchester United.

Rangers signed Butland from Crystal Palace in 2023, coming off the back of a loan spell at Old Trafford for the England international.

Butland has been sensational during his time at Ibrox, taking over the heavy gloves of Allan McGregor.

Danny Rohl handed Butland the captain’s armband again as Rangers beat Ludogorets on Thursday to secure their first Europa League win of the season.

That wasn’t the headline in football news, though.

Manchester United confirm Casemiro exit

News broke on Thursday that Casemiro and Man United had come to a mutual agreement that the Brazilian will leave in the summer.

Casemiro will head for pastures new once his contract expires in June, despite there being an option to extend that for another year.

The ex-Real Madrid icon took to Instagram after the news was confirmed, sending a message to the Red Devils, which Butland quickly liked.

Rangers have improved their own midfield this month, with Tochi Chukwuani arriving from Sturm Graz, looking to have a similar impact to the Brazilian.

Rangers transfer headlines so far in January

Chukwuani was the first through the door at Ibrox, but more have since followed.

Tuur Rommens was next signed, with Rangers agreeing a £3million deal with Westerlo to sign a much-needed permanent left-back.

The marquee arrival of the month, however, was easily Andreas Skov Olsen signing on loan from Wolfsburg, with a permanent option attached for the Danish winger.

With Lyall Cameron and Oscar Cortes already leaving on loan, more exits are also expected.

Rangers could let six players leave as they clear deadwood, with Kieran Dowell set to join Hull City, which is likely to be confirmed on Friday.

Despite all of the movement, Butland remains an ever-present.

With Liam Kelly remaining his understudy, it is clear that the Englishman is going nowhere anytime soon, even as managers come and go around him.

Rohl is here to stay, and he looks to be more than happy with Butland as his number one.
