Celtic look at Rangers enviously as last-minute ‘marquee’ signing on at Ibrox
Rangers are expected to continue their spending in the winter transfer window after signing Andreas Skov Olsen.
Tochi Chukwuani made his debut against Annan Athletic, with the Gers winning 5-0 at home in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.
Tuur Rommens has also been signed from Westerlo to bolster the left-back position, while Skov Olsen has arrived at Ibrox on loan, and the Light Blues have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer for around £8.6million.
The Glaswegian outfit may not be done just yet as they reinforce their squad to compete with Hearts and Celtic after reigniting their hopes in the William Hill Premiership.

Rangers to keep an eye on before Deadline Day as Celtic struggle
Danny Rohl expects further backing from Andrew Cavenagh, with the German manager hinting at a “marquee” signing at the Gers.
Scottish journalist Stephen McGowan believes the Light Blues have put themselves in a much better position than Celtic after their recent transfer activity and has suggested the arrival of a new number nine at Ibrox sooner rather than later.
The football writer believes the best deals often happen towards the end of windows, hinting at something big potentially happening in G51 before the 2 February deadline.
Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast, McGowan said, “I think so, yeah. Rohl says he wants more from this window. They’ve signed Skov Olsen, who looks like a potentially excellent signing. They’ve got Rommens, Chukwuani, so they’ve signed their three main priority positions with really a striker possibly still to come. I think you can see them trying to do that.”
The journalist added, “Rohl hasn’t ruled out a potentially marquee signing, which would be a bit of a crowd-pleaser. But I think Rangers have gotten themselves into a position very much unlike Celtic, where they can afford to lie back and see what comes up now. Quite often, the best deals of the window come in the final week.”
As things stand, it looks like Rohl will be focusing on outgoings at Ibrox, with the squad arguably needing trimming before more signings are made.
Next Ibrox exit set after Kieran Dowell transfer development
Kieran Dowell is set to join Hull City on loan before making his move permanent in the summer as a free agent.
Rohl started the English midfielder against Annan, but it looks like that was just to show potential suitors that he’s ready to play for them.
| Player | Appearances | Total minutes played |
| Kieran Dowell | 2 | 124 |
| Rabbi Matondo | 1 | 1 |
Rabbi Matondo also featured in the 5-0 win at Ibrox, winning a penalty, but the winger’s departure also seems inevitable.
The Wales international’s contract also expires at the end of the season, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him follow Dowell’s example.
