Joel Piroe to Rangers on cards for 49ers after strange transfer development at Leeds

Rangers could possibly make a move for Leeds United forward Joel Piroe towards the end of the winter transfer window.

The Suriname international has fallen down the pecking order under Daniel Farke after finishing last season as the EFL Championship’s top goalscorer, and his exit may be on the cards in January.

Danilo is one of the players who’s been transfer-listed at Ibrox, and the Brazilian striker’s exit could potentially open the doors to bolster the number nine position in Govan.

Danny Rohl is expecting more arrivals after signing Andreas Skov Olsen, and the Leeds attackers’ situation will surely be one to keep an eye on in G51, given the links with 49ers Enterprises.

Celtic move for Joel Piroe baffles due to Rangers association

It was strange to see Celtic trying to sign Piroe from Leeds, given the 49ers are part owners at the Gers, Andy Devlin says.

The Scottish Sun journalist believes the 26-year-old’s move to Parkhead was never on the cards, but the Dutch-born centre-forward may yet ply his trade in Scottish football at Ibrox.

While the American owners have been reluctant to do business between the two clubs they own, that could possibly finally change with the former PSV Eindhoven and Swansea attacker.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 20 January, Devlin said, “He’s a player that if Rangers were still in the market for a striker towards the end of this window, that potentially they could look at.”

The journalist added, “I still think there are other options before him, but yeah, I mean, it was a strange one with regards to Celtic trying to bring him to Parkhead. I don’t think that was ever a goer.

“I think the 49ers have been very conscious of the feeder club look. That’s why you haven’t seen a player arriving from Elland Road or somebody from Ibrox going down there. But if it’s going to be beneficial to both clubs, then why not?”

49ers would’ve surely been in for a rude awakening had they sanctioned Piroe’s move to Celtic, with the Old Firm rivals locked in a heated title race.

Hearts are leading the William Hill Premiership, but the two Glaswegian outfits are only six points behind them.

Danny Rohl has striker target at Ibrox doorstep

Motherwell forward Tawanda Maswanhise has been linked with a move to Ibrox after an impressive season at Fir Park.

The 23-year-old has scored 10 league goals in 19 appearances, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Rangers make a move for the versatile attacker sooner rather than later.

Maswanhise has played in multiple positions under Jens Berthel Askou, with some of his recent magnificent displays coming as a centre-forward.

Instead of looking at players abroad, maybe it’s finally time for the Light Blues to look closer to home and sign players who’ve proven themselves in the William Hill Premiership.
