Hugh Keevins raises Rangers concern as exits stall for Danny Rohl at Ibrox
Rangers fans witnessed fringe players like Joe Rothwell, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo play against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup on Friday.
Wullie Gibson’s team were eventually thrashed at Ibrox on 16 January, as Bojan Miovski scored a hat-trick in the Gers 5-0 victory.
Leicester City have expressed an interest in Dowell, but he got himself on the scoresheet after starting alongside Rothwell in the middle of the park against the William Hill League Two club.
Despite some impressive incoming business with the likes of Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen, the Glaswegian outfit haven’t been able to offload many players so far, which will be a cause for concern among supporters.
Rangers players wages make January transfer difficult
Hugh Keevins believes the Gers are having trouble offloading players due to their high wages.
The football writer and columnist doesn’t think any of the fringe players will voluntarily leave Ibrox unless they receive adequate financial offers.
Rothwell, Dowell and Matondo are among players the Glaswegian outfit are looking to part ways with in the coming weeks, but only time will tell whether they’ll be able to do so.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 16 January, Keevins said, “That’s why it’s so difficult to get rid of them, because they’re on such big money, they’re not going to volunteer to go elsewhere for considerably less money.”
The veteran broadcaster added, “But no one will be more aware of the need to offload players than Rangers themselves. Whatever they can do, they will do with the constraints that they have because they’ve been paying players too much money.”
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will undoubtedly be looking to balance the books as they continue to back Rohl after a £20million net spend last summer.
Lyall Cameron to soon be followed by another Ibrox talent
Neil McCann wants Findlay Curtis at Kilmarnock, and the Scottish youngster’s performance against Annan will certainly have increased interest in him.
Rangers have already sent Lyall Cameron to Aberdeen on loan for the rest of the season, and the 19-year-old may soon follow the midfielder out the door.

Curtis has put in decent performances whenever he’s been called upon this season, but it will arguably be better for his development to get consistent minutes elsewhere.
The winger will have increased competition for places after Andreas Skov Olsen’s arrival, and it would make sense to sanction the youngster’s exit.
