Aberdeen want to sign Rangers midfielder as double transfer now on cards at Pittodrie

Rangers have been making great strides in the January transfer window.

Danny Rohl has completed his first couple of signings as Rangers head coach, as they look to equip themselves with the quality to push Hearts and Celtic all the way in the Premiership title race.

Tochi Chukwuani signed for Rangers in a £4million move from Sturm Graz last Sunday, bolstering Rohl’s options in the middle of the park.

His arrival was shortly followed by the confirmation that Tuur Rommens had completed his move to Ibrox, with the left-back joining from Belgian outfit Westerlo for up to £3.5m.

Meanwhile, the Gers are edging closer to welcoming their third new face to Glasgow this month, with Andreas Skov Olsen understood to be finalising his move.

Aberdeen want Rangers signing from this summer’s window

However, it’s not all been about incomings at Ibrox, with Oscar Cortes being the headline exit so far, as the 22-year-old winger has joined Argentinian side Huracan on loan.

And with the aforementioned new signings in place and further additions expected to be made, there is sure to be more fringe players on the move before the window shuts.

One of those could be Lyall Cameron, who has struggled to find a role in Rangers’ side so far this season.

Cameron signed for Rangers on a pre-contract deal in this season’s summer transfer window, moving on from Dundee FC.

But, the 23-year-old midfielder has played just 186 minutes of Premiership football for the Gers so far this season, and Chukwuani’s arrival will only make gametime tougher to come by.

The Daily Record has reported on Thursday that Aberdeen would like to take Cameron on loan, with the Dons alerted to his availability to head out temporarily.

It’s stated that the managerless Dandies would like to conclude a deal in time for him and one other to be able to play a part in their Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers this Sunday.

Would Lyall Cameron start for Aberdeen?

Despite failing to win a significant role since signing for Rangers, club chiefs won’t be giving up on Cameron just yet, and will still see a future for him at Ibrox.

Therefore, securing him a beneficial loan move would be in the best interests of everyone involved, but would that be the case with Aberdeen?

Well, the Dons have consistently shuffled the pack around in central midfield this season, and they aren’t short for options in the middle of the park.

However, they haven’t really been able to find a central midfield partnership to stick with, and so Cameron would likely get a big opportunity to cement a starting role for the rest of the season.

Therefore, if it’s starting minutes he’s after, then a move to Pittodrie should offer him the opportunity to achieve that.
