What Rangers fans can expect from Andreas Skov Olsen as medical set

Andreas Skov Olsen looks set to become Rangers’ third signing of the winter transfer window.

Rangers have already added Tochi Chukwuani to their ranks, and the addition of Tuur Rommens has now been announced.

Danny Rohl looks set to add the Dane to his squad, as he tries to steal a march on Hearts and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Skov Olsen is set for a medical with the Ibrox club after they agreed a loan-to-buy deal with his current club, Wolfsburg.

Andreas Skov Olsen will not have Vaclav Cerny-like impact at Rangers

Vaclav Cerny was the standout player for Rangers last season, and like the potential new Gers man, he came from the German club.

However, any ideas that Skov Olsen could have a similar impact to the Czech Republic international, who scored 18 and assisted nine for the Bears, may be wide of the mark, as the Sofascore graphic below highlights.

In their respective times in Lower Saxony, Cerny comes out on top for goals, minutes per goal involvement and successful dribbles, while Rohl’s newest addition was better at creating and defensive aspect of the game.

Skov Olsen is more of a creator

The Danish international ranks 10th for key passes per game(1.3) and second for the rate of accurate long balls per game (73 per cent) among the 37 wingers to play at least 50 per cent of matches since he moved to the Wolves, per Sofascore.

That suggests that the majority of his work comes from deep, which is further backed up by the fact that he ranks 21st for touches in the opposition box per game (two) and 23rd for final third entries per match(1.1).

In fact, the 26-year-old is 29th for successful dribbles per game (0.4), 31st for shots per game (0.7) and 33rd for shots on target (0.2), meaning that he is not the type to take on his man and score often.

Why Skov Olsen can help Rangers’ misfiring forwards

Given his playmaking ability, Skov Olsen could be the key to unlocking the strikers at the Gers’ disposal.

Bojan Miovski, Youssef Chermiti and Danilo have all struggled to regularly find the net for both Russell Martin and Rohl.

The trio have just 12 goals between them so far this season, which is not good enough if the Light Blues are to lift the title.

If Skov Olsen can help to unlock at least one of them, and increase their output, his signature will prove to be a masterstroke.

He may not bring goals like Cerny, and the assists may also be lacking, but he will create more chances for the Govan outfit, and increase their chances of winning matches.
