Celtic fans to be pushed over edge by Rangers transfer in double blow

Rangers and Celtic’s transfer windows could become intertwined in the coming days.

Rangers beat Celtic 3-1 on 3 January, with Youssef Chermiti’s brace ensuring Danny Rohl’s side completed a fantastic second-half comeback.

The Bears currently sit three points off league leaders Hearts and three points clear of arch-rivals Celtic, which is something that felt unthinkable after Russell Martin’s reign ended disastrously.

After Wilfried Nancy was sacked by Celtic, Martin O’Neill returned for the third time in his career, and the three-way title race might go down to the wire.

Andreas Skov Olsen could be a huge signing for Rangers, and according to Keith Jackson, his arrival could see Celtic lose one of their own star players, which would leave Hoops supporters furious.

Andreas Skov Olsen to Rangers could see Celtic lose Daizen Maeda

Rangers look to be on the verge of signing Skov Olsen, with Danish media outlet Tipsbladet reporting that the Bears have reached an agreement with Wolfsburg for a loan fee.

The 26-year-old is scheduled to travel to Glasgow on Wednesday to undergo his medical and sign the contract that would make him a Gers player.

The loan will last until the end of the season, and there is an option to buy the Dane should he prove to be a success.

Once the deal for Skov Olsen goes through, Wolfsburg could renew their interest in Celtic forward Daizen Maeda.

Maeda wanted to leave Celtic in the summer, but the German outfit was unable to finalise a deal for the Japanese forward.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 13 January, Jackson said he believes Maeda’s departure would leave Celtic fans reeling.

He said: “I think that might send people over the edge if that happens.

“I don’t think it would be wise for the Celtic board to facilitate a move that sees them lose Maeda to Wolfsburg so Skov Olsen can go to Rangers.”

The 28-year-old is clearly one of their best players, and the Light Blues would strengthen their own squad and weaken Celtic’s with just one move.

Skov Olsen has everything it takes to tear up Scottish Premiership

Although Skov Olsen has failed to hit the ground running since moving from Club Brugge to Wolfsburg in January 2025, his time in Belgium was excellent.

The Dane won two First Division titles during his spell in Brussels, while also lifting the Belgian Super Cup in 2022-23.

The likes of Oliver Antman and Djeidi Gassama should be worried about their future in Govan, given Skov Olsen’s pedigree in European football.

He has scored eight goals in 40 caps for Denmark, and a move to Govan could help him regain a spot in his national team.

There are hardly any ways in which Skov Olsen’s transfer could go wrong, and if Celtic lose Maeda in the process, it could go down as one of the most impactful transfer sagas Scotland has seen in recent history.
