49ers latest Rangers nightmare clear to see as Oscar Cortes exit details emerge

Oscar Cortes’ Rangers nightmare is over, but the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh may not be too pleased.

Cortes signed for Rangers in the summer, with a £4.5 million buy obligation after his initial loan spell from Lens.

The Colombian has only featured 21 times for the Ibrox outfit in two seasons, so an exit makes sense for all parties.

The Rangers flop has now been confirmed as a Huracan player, and the details will leave supporters amazed.

Why Rangers have dropped the ball with Cortes exit developments

Rangers’ decision to fork out such a sum for Cortes was heavily criticised, and it looks like they have struggled to recoup those millions.

The Argentine club took to X on 13 January to confirm that they have signed the 22-year-old on a loan with a £60,000 loan fee.

They have the option to purchase 50 per cent of the transfers rights, with three semi-annual purchase options of £1.35m, £1.5m and then £1.65m.

That means that the most that the Gers will get for Cortes is £1.65m, which is nearly £3m less than they paid for Cortes, the latest nightmare scenario for the ownership.

49ers and Cavenagh still have credit in the bank

The Cortes developments are bad, but overall, the 49ers and Cavenagh have had an impressive winter window.

They have bounced back from previous nightmares, such as hiring Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell, and Youssef Chermiti, who was designated as a flop after his signature, looking like coming good after his brace against Celtic.

Their decision to hire Danny Rohl after Russell Martin was sacked is paying dividends, and the Gers are firmly back in the Scottish Premiership title race.

They have already backed the German, with the signing of Tochi Chukwuani confirmed and deals for Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen in the pipeline.

The ownership have credit in the bank, and if they invest significantly this month and it leads to a title, then the fee that they received for Cortes will be forgotten.

It is unfortunate that they could not get a better fee for him, but it may not even matter in the long-run.
