Rangers can seal ‘statement’ Andreas Skov Olsen transfer, he’s just like ex-Ibrox star

Andreas Skov Olsen could join Rangers in the next few days.

Rangers have made a significant seven-figure loan bid for Skov Olsen, who has been linked with a move to Ibrox for several years now.

With talks between both clubs progressing on Monday, there is huge anticipation that Danny Rohl could add further quality to his attack.

Although Skov Olsen has failed to hit the ground running since moving from Club Brugge to Germany in January 2025, his time in Belgium was excellent.

Barry Ferguson has huge hopes for the Danish star and has backed the 26-year-old to be an overwhelming success at Ibrox should he sign.

Barry Ferguson backs Andreas Skov Olsen to have the same success as Vaclav Cerny

Vaclav Cerny spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Ibrox from Skov Olsen’s current team, Wolfsburg, and enjoyed a fantastic campaign.

The Czech Republic international now plays for Turkish outfit Besiktas, and Ferguson insists Rangers should have signed Cerny permanently.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 12 January, Ferguson believes the move for Skov Olsen could work out perfectly, and draws similarities to Cerny’s impact at Rangers.

He said: “He’s a natural wide player, and he’s itching at the bit to play. I think Rangers would be a brilliant platform for him.

“If you look back to 18 months ago, Rangers went to Wolfsburg and got someone else on loan. Look at how that turned out.

“Cerny was a difference maker, and a joy to work with. If Skov Olsen were to join, it would be a statement signing.”

Fans are always told to never fall in love with a loan player, but that’s exactly what the Bears supporters did with Cerny.

What have Ferguson and Ally McCoist said about Cerny’s spell at Rangers in the past?

On 15 September 2025, Ferguson insisted that Rangers made a mistake not signing Cerny permanently after his loan stint last season.

“He was a real game-changer, and he worked hard for the team. In terms of working for the team, he stood out to me.

“It would have been a good bit of business to try and bring him back; it was a no-brainer, but obviously they went down a different route.”

Ally McCoist was also adamant that Rangers should’ve signed two former players on permanent deals, with one of them being Cerny.

Speaking to talkSPORT on 15 September, he said: “I would’ve got [Abdallah] Sima, and I would’ve got Cerny, instead of taking a £10m gamble on Youssef Chermiti.

“They are two players that can perform at Rangers; they know the league, they know the club, and they’ve played well for Rangers in the past.”

Cerny had a lasting impact at Ibrox, and fans won’t be forgetting him any time soon.

If Skov Olsen can show the same level of fight and determination, then he will be an instant hit in Govan.
