Elliot Watt transfer to Rangers green-lit after what’s seen in Motherwell footage

Motherwell midfielder Elliot Watt undoubtedly has what it takes to succeed at Rangers.

Former Gers midfielder Kevin Thomson is a big fan of the Scotsman, who’s having a breakthrough season at Fir Park under Jens Berthel Askou.

Watt has emerged as a target at Ibrox, with the Light Blues looking to bolster their engine room in the winter transfer window.

While Danny Rohl has already signed Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz, the Glaswegian outfit have been urged to get the 25-year-old from the Steelmen.

Elliot Watt can play for Rangers and Celtic

Thomson believes Watt is good enough to play for the two Old Firm clubs after his exploits at Motherwell.

The ex-Scotland international has been closely following the midfielder’s performances this season and believes he can fit into the Gers’ plans at Ibrox.

Berthel Askou’s team’s recent displays against the two Glaswegian outfits impressed many, with the former St Johnstone star playing a key role.

Speaking on The Breakdown with Charlie Mulgrew, Thomson said, “I think he could do a job for them [Rangers and Celtic]. And that’s not trying to steal Motherwell’s players because their fans must be loving him.”

The ex-midfielder added, “I’ve obviously been an advocate. I’ve watched him live, on footage, on the telly and extended highlights that pop up on social media. And he can play. He can see a pass. I’m not so sure how mobile he is without the ball but if he was then to go to a team that dominates the ball more…”

Watt seems to be a fan of the Govan side, and it will be interesting to see whether the Light Blues will eventually make a move for him.

Elliot Watt perfect replacement for Ibrox absentee

Connor Barron is expected to be out at Ibrox until March, and it’s undoubtedly a big blow for Rohl.

The Scottish midfielder had emerged as a key player for the German manager in recent weeks, forming a formidable partnership with Nicolas Raskin.

While Chukwuani’s arrival bolsters Rohl’s options in the engine room, the Denmark Under-21 international mostly played as a left-midfielder for Sturm Graz this season.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss arguably could do with a number six at the Glaswegian outfit, and Watt seems like the perfect replacement for Barron.
