Danny Rohl frustration shared by one-time Rangers figure despite barnstorming form

Danny Rohl is very much to thank as Rangers are now firmly in contention for Scottish Premiership title honours.

Rangers have won five in a row in the league and are within three points of leaders Hearts with plenty of the campaign to play.

Kris Boyd predicts Rangers will only get better under Rohl in a claim that will no doubt strike fear into the rest of Scottish football.

Rangers’ 2-0 win at Aberdeen on Sunday only underlined their title credentials, but there has been one area that Rohl has maybe fallen short so far.

Danny Rohl continues to overlook Rangers pair

Former Rangers player Derek Ferguson has been blown away by what he has seen from Rohl so far at Ibrox.

However, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson admitted he would have liked Rohl to have given Findlay Curtis and Lyall Cameron more playing time so far.

Curtis and Cameron have played 186 minutes each in the league this season – a little over two full games – and not at all yet in 2026.

Fewest Rangers league mins among squad players this season

The pair often struggle to get into the matchday squad, in fact, and exits for both players – likely on loan – now seem likely.

Curtis could head to Kilmarnock on loan, with Neil McCann and Billy Dodds – part of the Gers coaching staff for a period last season – now in charge.

And that could be a move that ultimately benefits all parties – Kilmarnock, Rangers and of course Curtis.

“There’s a future for both Curtis and Cameron at Rangers,” Ferguson said.

“The one disappointment I’ve had in Rohl is that when he takes the regular midfielders off when we’re ahead, he doesn’t turn to someone like Curtis or Cameron.

Is there nobody in the academy he could be looking at? These players need minutes and the manager’s maybe looked at it and has decided I’m bringing in more players and these aren’t going to be playing, so let’s get them out, get them playing elsewhere.

Curtis’ stats in all competitions.

Rather than sitting on the bench, they need to be playing and hopefully challenge for a place come next season.”

Who will be next to leave Rangers after Findlay Curtis?

Curtis should get his loan move to Kilmarnock, and you’d imagine Cameron will also seek minutes elsewhere – whether that be in Scotland or further afield.

Others are also in desperate need of more playing time, or indeed a career revival, away from Ibrox.

The likes of Joe Rothwell, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo have no futures in Glasgow and should really be looking for new clubs this month.

Rohl has already made clear who is in his plans and this month is as much about getting rid of the deadwood as it is bringing in replacements.

Cameron and Curtis will have parts to play at Rangers in the long term, but for now it is about gaining some experience elsewhere.
