Tam McManus can’t believe what ‘hopeless’ player did in Aberdeen vs Rangers

Rangers were handed a slice of luck in their win against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Rangers confirmed the signing of Tochi Chukwuani ahead of the clash at Pittodrie in a hugely positive afternoon for the Light Blues.

Jack Butland made a stunning save against Aberdeen to keep the Gers in the game, despite the away side having the better of the chances.

The Govan club eventually saw out a 2-0 win to keep the excellent atmosphere under Danny Rohl rolling on after Rangers secured a 2-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

That didn’t stop some element of controversy from emerging, with Tam McManus left to question what he saw from Aberdeen.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov slammed by Tam McManus

Butland has had his critics at Rangers, but has largely been a capable pair of hands when called upon over the years for the Bears.

The Englishman once again proved his qualities against the Dons, with his save from a long-range Leighton Clarkson effort being integral to securing victory.

He saw the strike at the last minute and got a touch to send it around the post despite it bouncing in front of him at the last second.

Similar can be said of Aberdeen man Dimitar Mitov, although he has been called into question frequently this campaign.

The Bulgarian didn’t help himself when Emmanuel Fernandez netted a header up against the keeper, but the effort was unfortunately ruled out.

It was a harsh call against the Rangers man, with McManus left baffled how Mitov had been bailed out after a moment of madness.

He said: “The Aberdeen goalkeeper is getting away with murder again, same as against St Mirren. Hopeless.”

Rangers didn’t take advantage enough of Mitov failings

Mitov may have made a few saves at Pittodrie, but arguably wasn’t tested enough in the end.

The 28-year-old made eight saves against the Gers, with arguably his best coming after a strike from Youssef Chermiti in the second half.

Rangers did secure a 2-0 win, but this clash against a goalkeeper off his game could have been the perfect opportunity to increase their goal difference.

Hearts have a plus-six better goal difference than the Light Blues, so a better day in front of goal against the Dons could have been massive.

Rohl will be happy with the win, but it may prove to be a missed opportunity further down the line.
