Rangers player urged to get on phone to his agent after what Danny Rohl’s done
Danny Rohl has taken little time to get down to work since being hired as Rangers manager in late October.
The German manager has quickly won over the Ibrox fanbase and all of a sudden has Rangers right back in Scottish Premiership title contention.
Rangers’ 2-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday leaves them three points behind leaders Hearts, with plenty of momentum now on the Gers’ side.
Tochi Chukwuani has been confirmed as a Gers player, while Tuur Rommens is underdoing a Rangers medical ahead of becoming signing number of of the month.
However, outgoing activity can also be expected at Ibrox before the window shuts on 2 February, with a few names in particular in desperate need of an exit.
Kieran Dowell told his future lies away from Rangers
Kieran Dowell is a player who has not had a look-in at Rangers under Rohl, with the midfielder’s six appearances in all competitions each arriving during Russell Martin’s tenure.
Indeed, Dowell has not been used at all by Rangers since mid-August, despite seemingly being available for selection.
A number of Championship teams want to sign Dowell, with Hull City the most recent to be credited with an interest.
And in the view of former Rangers player Derek Ferguson, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Dowell simply needs to get on the phone to his agent in order to get a move out of Glasgow this month.
“Dowell’s one that should be going, along with players like Danilo,” Ferguson said. “It can’t be good just sitting around and not playing. “Even when the midfield is being rotated, he’s not being given a shout.
“He’s an experienced player, a decent enough player, but Rohl doesn’t fancy him and it’s a clear message that he needs to go and talk to his agent right now.
“That’d then free up a place for someone else to come in this month. Players like him who are on the periphery, we need to look to offload them.”
Dowell joined Rangers from Norwich City on a three-year contract in the 2023 summer transfer window and the midfielder has made 32 appearances in total, with a loan spell at Birmingham City in between.

Who else could follow Dowell out of Ibrox this window?
Ferguson also named Danilo as another who could be a prime candidate to move on this month, given a combination of both his wages and his lack of playing time.
Rabbi Matondo is another who is picking up a free wage right now, but getting rid of the injury prone Wales international is easier said than done.
| Player | Games | Minutes |
| Rabbi Matondo | 1 | 1 |
| Clinton Nsiala | 3 | 50 |
| Kieran Dowell | 2 | 124 |
| Findlay Curtis | 9 | 186 |
| Lyall Cameron | 6 | 186 |
You then have the likes of Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis, who Rangers will not want to get rid of permanently but potentially on a loan basis.
Joe Rothwell is another who seems surplus to requirements and could do with speeding up the process of finding himself a new club, likely back in England.
Rangers are now on a new path under Rohl and the 49ers, but there is still plenty of deadweight to get rid of.
