Rangers in transfer tug-of-war with two Champions League clubs for seven-goal winger

Rangers mean business in the January transfer window, and Danny Rohl is eyeing more additions after signing Tochi Chukwuani.

Chukwuani joined Rangers for £4million from Sturm Graz on Sunday after weeks of speculation, with the midfielder becoming Rohl’s first signing.

Rangers are also closing in on the signing of Tuur Rommens from Westerlo, and supporters are excited about the talented left-back addressing their lack of depth in that position.

Once Rommens is through the door at Ibrox, Rohl’s attention will turn to bolstering the Gers’ attack, and multiple names are on their radar.

Rangers locked in transfer battle for Damir Redzic

In an attempt to offer more competition for the likes of Djeidi Gassama, Rangers have launched a loan bid for Andreas Skov Olsen from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, while Sunderland’s Romaine Mundle is a target.

Interestingly, the Light Blues have placed another name on their shortlist, and that is DAC Dunajska Streda winger Damir Redzic.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Rangers are joined by RB Salzburg and Champions League clubs Copenhagen and Olympiacos in a bid to sign Redzic.

The Hungarian has impressed in Slovakia’s top division this term with seven goals in 14 appearances, while laying on one assist.

Redzic is known for his long shots and high pressing capabilities, two attributes that could see him succeed in Rohl’s system.

The 22-year-old is also capable of playing as a right winger or striker, and that versatility appeals to any manager.

What Redzic interest could mean for Gassama

Rohl’s interest in signing a new right winger is bad news for Gassama, who has predominantly been used in that position this term.

Gassama has been inconsistent for Rangers since joining from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, including against Aberdeen last time out, and the 22-year-old could be replaced.

Skov Olsen and Redzic both operate on the right flank, while Mundle can also play there, and links to those three players suggest he could soon drop to the bench.

Ultimately, Gassama need to improve his final ball to warrant keeping his place in the side, otherwise, the youngster will be fighting for his place.
