Kris Boyd drops Danny Rohl and Rangers claim that’ll strike fear into Hearts

Rangers kept pace with Premiership leaders Hearts on Sunday.

In wet and wild conditions at Pittodrie, Rangers defeated Aberdeen 2-0 to extend their winning run to five straight games.

That ensured it would be an exact replica of the scoreline in the reverse fixture on Tuesday, as Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox on 6 January.

Jack Butland made an excellent save at 0-0 in Sunday’s game, before Thelo Aasgaard and James Tavernier goals – the latter from the penalty spot – would send Rangers back to Glasgow with all three points.

Kris Boyd makes scary Rangers prediction

Danny Rohl is being lauded for Rangers’ turnaround since his arrival in late October, following the disastrous Russell Martin experience.

Rohl has now won 10 of his 13 Premiership matches in charge, which is a remarkable improvement when you consider the fact that Martin had won just one of his seven league games with this exact same group of players.

Hearts were able to beat Dundee FC 1-0 on Sunday to keep Rangers at arms length and three points behind them, but the Gers are now breathing hotly down their necks, and they don’t appear to be going away anytime soon.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of the win over Aberdeen, Kris Boyd even predicted that Rangers will do one thing under Rohl: get even better.

“Two victories against Aberdeen in the week, and going to Celtic Park and getting three points, playing Motherwell as well who are flying, St Mirren make it difficult for teams, and they’re not conceding goals either,” Boyd said.

“That man there (Rohl) can be extremely pleased with the results he’s getting. He will know himself that performances will get better.

I imagine he’ll want to get players in. The team does need a little bit of quality added to it, but they’re in a right good place Rangers now.”

Rangers’ win over Aberdeen by the numbers

If Rangers are still going to only improve after their win over Aberdeen, having already won five on the bounce, then Hearts will be shaking in their boots.

Rangers had 48 per cent possession against Aberdeen on Sunday, but were able to register 18 shots on the Dandies’ goal, with nine of those being on target and a 2.20 xG (expected goals).

In comparison, the home side recorded just seven attempts on goal with five on target, whilst registering an xG of just 0.35.

Rangers created four big chances compared to Aberdeen’s zero, whilst also having six corners.

Eight of the Gers’ attempts came from inside the box, with 10 being from outside, whilst taking 21 touches in the Aberdeen box.
