Rangers at centre of ‘disgrace’ as new Aberdeen postponement update shared

Rangers’ clash against Aberdeen on Sunday evening looks set to go ahead despite poor weather conditions in Scotland.

There is a yellow Met Office warning in place between Glasgow and Aberdeen, with conditions in and around Pittodrie far from ideal for a football match.

More importantly, it is far from ideal for those looking to attend the fixture – particularly those travelling from further afield.

The SFA have been urged to call off Rangers’ clash with Aberdeen, but that does not look like it will be the case amid the latest update emerging.

Rangers SLO confirms Aberdeen match still going ahead

Supporters are not happy Rangers’ showdown with Aberdeen is going ahead, with some implying that the game being televised on Sky Sports may have a say in the matter.

It is rare for a Scottish game to take centre stage in the primetime early Sunday evening slot, which is indeed the case for this contest.

In a message posted via the Rangers SLO account on X on Sunday afternoon, there is still “nothing to suggest the game is off”.

“Main weather issue is high winds and rain,” the account added. “Roads are free from snow, but flooding could cause travel disruption. Please take care on your journey and take all necessary precautions.”

It is a decision that has not gone down well and very much disregards the safety of supporters, many of whom will no doubt decide against travelling.

As Scott Burns said in a column for the Daily Record, the SFA are a “disgrace” for not stepping in early and calling the game off.

Burns, rightly, questions why the SFA regularly state they put supporters first and then go and make a decision like this.

Why has Aberdeen vs Rangers been given primetime Sky Sports coverage?

It is FA Cup third-round weekend in England and Wales, meaning no Premier League action for Sky Sports to show.

The 4:30pm slot on a Sunday is usually reserved for the biggest match of the week, so there will be plenty of extra eyes on this contest.

Aberdeen versus Rangers may not exactly get the juices flowing of neutrals, but there is at least now a fair bit more riding on the game.

That is thanks to the Gers now being in outside title contention, with three points in the horrible Aberdeen conditions needed if that is to remain the case.

The TV fixtures are picked well in advance, but this will still hopefully be a decent match for the neutral – and more importantly, one Rangers come out on top in.
