Mohamed Diomande exceptional as 4/10 should be axed – Rangers player ratings vs Aberdeen

The Scottish Premiership title continued to heat up on Sunday, and Rangers piled the pressure on Hearts with a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

In the earlier kick-off, Hearts secured a vital 1-0 win over Dundee to move six points clear at the top with a game in hand.

So, after Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox on Tuesday, Danny Rohl knew his side had to repeat that feat, to which they obliged.

Thelo Aasgaard’s 23rd-minute strike and James Tavernier’s second-half penalty saw the visitors clinch victory against The Dons to move three points behind the leaders.

Mohamed Diomande was fantastic for Rangers vs Aberdeen

Rangers completed the signing of midfielder Tochi Chukwuani ahead of their visit to Pittodrie, and perhaps Mohamed Diomande saw that as a chance to show why he should keep his place in the side.

Chukwuani is expected to be joined at Ibrox by Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, potentially placing Diomande’s position under threat.

But against Aberdeen, the 24-year-old was magnificent in the middle of the park, as he constantly mopped up possession for his team and carried the ball forward on several occasions.

Diomande has slowly been improving in a Rangers shirt, and supporters would have been pleased to see his partnership with Nicolas Raskin blossom.

Djeidi Gassama was wasteful

Djeidi Gassama has earned mixed reviews since completing a summer transfer from Sheffield Wednesday, and the 22-year-old proved why that was the case against Aberdeen.

Despite winning the penalty for their second goal, Gassama flattered to deceive with his end product after finding himself in some promising positions, and that has been an issue throughout his time at Ibrox.

Everyone knows that Gassama has a lot of potential, although supporters are frustrated that he’s yet to unleash it for the Gers and why he’s been linked with a move away.

That being said, Rohl has already shut down the idea of Gassama leaving Rangers, but he must improve to fulfil his potential.
