‘Magnificent’ – Willie Miller blown away by what Rangers ace did in 1st half vs Aberdeen

Rangers are on a march towards the Scottish Premiership title, and their latest assignment was a trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen.

In the rescheduled fixture at Ibrox on Tuesday, Rangers secured a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen to keep themselves hot on the heels of Hearts.

The Jam Tarts clinched a 1-0 win over ninth-place Dundee in Sunday’s early kick off, with Danny Rohl’s men knowing that all three points were a must.

Rangers got off to a perfect start when Thelo Aasgaard put the visitors ahead in the 23rd minute, but it was one of his teammates who earned even more plaudits.

Jack Butland makes wonderful save for Rangers against Aberdeen

To win a league title, every team needs a goalkeeper who can win their team points, and in Jack Butland, Rohl has the perfect player.

Butland has been excellent for Rangers this season, even at points when the Light Blues were struggling, and the Englishman proved his worth against Aberdeen.

The 32-year-old produced superb reactions to deny Leighton Clarkson from long range in the first half, and as a result, drew praise from former Aberdeen forward Willie Miller.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Miller said: “I don’t think Butland saw that until the last moment, and he had to react. It’s a quite magnificent save.”

Butland’s save was a crucial moment in the first half, as it gave his side the platform to score moments later through Aasgaard.

Not for the first time Butland has impressed

When the Gers secured a 1-0 win over Motherwell on December 27, Butland served up a Man of the Match performance, producing a string of stunning saves to win his side all three points.

As a result, Rangers Women’s manager Leanne Crichton praised the talented shot-stopper, lauding his “massive” saves.

“Credit to Jack Butland, because he had three or four massive saves,” she said.

“Gassama was really lively this afternoon. I think his performance, whether it’s from the left-hand side or the right, was really lively.

“That’s a big save to go and make the save initially, but to make sure it’s out of danger and you don’t clock it back in.”

Butland will need to continue producing these consistent performances if Rangers are to win the title.
