Keith Hackett reacts as fans not happy with Aberdeen vs Rangers postponement update – ‘Nothing suspicious’

Rangers’ game against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership remains at risk of postponement with weather warnings in place.

Danny Rohl’s side travel to Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon as they hope to make it five wins on the bounce.

It is the second time the two sides have met in the past six days, after Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox last Tuesday.

However, with amber weather warnings around the area for snow and ice, some supporters are confused as to why the contest hasn’t been called off.

Aberdeen fans question Rangers postponement decision

Rangers’ clash with Aberdeen will be heavily affected by the weather, with snow falling near Pittodrie in recent days.

However, the match is still set to go ahead as things stand, despite concerns over the conditions.

Aberdeen released a statement to supporters on Sunday morning, revealing that they are monitoring the situation closely and will update fans should anything change.

Some Dons fans believe that the game should have already been called off, though, and that it is only going ahead because Rangers and Sky Sports are involved.

The feeling is that if Aberdeen were playing one of the other teams in Scotland, apart from Celtic and Rangers, the match would have been postponed long ago.

Keith Hackett reacts to Rangers controversy

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has shut down the claims from Aberdeen fans, insisting that there is nothing suspicious going on.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Hackett said: “It is frankly good to see the Football Administrators taking a proactive approach regarding the weather conditions and the impact that it may have on the game going ahead.

“There is nothing suspicious here. Every club wants games to go ahead, and they will make every effort to achieve this.

“They will have taken into account the current conditions, the weather forecasts, the number of people employed to deal with food, etc.

“I do hope that the weather improves and that the game goes ahead and reaches a conclusion.”
