Rangers can now convince ‘very clever’ player to sign for Danny Rohl after FA Cup triumph
Andrew Cavenagh looks ready to heavily back Danny Rohl at Rangers in the winter transfer window.
The American owners are expected to continue their investment in January, following an approximate net spend of £20million in the summer at the Gers.
Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens are expected at Ibrox soon, with the Light Blues spending around £7m on the Denmark youth international and Belgian left-back.
Apart from the Sturm Graz midfielder and Westerlo defender, Sunderland’s Dan Neil and Romaine Mundle are also targets for Rohl, and the Glaswegian outfit may now be able to convince another player to join them.
Dan Neil unused substitute in Sunderland win vs Everton amid Rangers interest
Dan Neil watched from the bench as Sunderland beat Everton in the FA Cup third round on penalties.
The Toffees hosted the Black Cats at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 10 January, with the score 1-1 after extra time.
While Mundle played the entire game for Regis Le Bris’ team, Neil was an unused substitute, with Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki and Enzo Le Fee starting in the engine room.
It looks like the Sunderland boss still has some use for the English winger, but the 24-year-old midfielder seems surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light.
With Connor Barron picking up a long-term injury at Ibrox, Rohl may now want further midfield reinforcements in January.
Neil has made just three appearances in the Premier League this season, and being snubbed in the FA may open the door for the Glaswegian outfit to convince him.

Dan Neil exactly what Danny Rohl needs after Regis Le Bris admission
Rangers seem to be close to signing Neil, and his lack of minutes at Sunderland arguably gives Rohl a chance to bring him to G51.
The Englishman is capable of bringing leadership and balance to the Gers’ engine room, something the German manager is undoubtedly missing at Ibrox.
| Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Neil | 48 | 2 | 3 |
| Mundle | 25 | 5 | 2 |
Speaking on Neil in January 2025, Le Bris said, “I think he did well during the first part of the season, but it wasn’t so obvious for the observers. Maybe because he is really involved to adjust all the behaviours of his teammates. He is very clever, and it’s important in adjusting to give information, balance the team.”
Having lost Barron’s tenacity, which perfectly complemented Nicolas Raskin’s abilities, Rohl now needs to find a different formula for success, which may include the Sunderland midfielder.
