Regis Le Bris opens door to Romaine Mundle exit as Rangers approach made
Rangers have been handed encouragement in their pursuit of Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle.
Danny Rohl‘s side have been active in the January transfer window, with deals for Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani already agreed.
The Ibrox side’s business is not expected to stop there, with the ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager keen to bolster his attacking options.
A report from The Northern Echo on 9 January claims that the Gers have made an initial inquiry over Mundle‘s availability this month.
What did Regis Le Bris say about Rangers-linked Mundle’s future?
The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh are backing Rohl to reshape the Gers’ squad in the winter window.
The report states that Rohl is keen on the 22-year-old Premier League star, as he knows him from his previous time in the Championship with the Owls.
Mackems boss Regis Le Bris seemed to open the door for a potential exit in his press conference on 9 January, saying: “The conversation is open for every player who lacks minutes. That’s always the case.
“The most important thing is the club project – this is the first idea. Then, after that, it depends on the situation.
“If we think that over the second half of the season, the player won’t play a lot, then it means you can perhaps find a solution. But you have to find another club with a good project as well.”
Who is Rangers target Romaine Mundle?
Mundle is a talented winger who spent time in Tottenham and Standard Liege’s youth academies before heading to the Stadium of Light.
He had a breakthrough campaign in the second tier last season as he scored five goals and notched two assists in 22 appearances, as the North East side secured promotion to the Premier League.
His chances have been limited this campaign, with Le Bris bringing in several new players, and Mundle finding himself behind the likes of Chemsdine Talbi and Bertrand Traore in the pecking order.
Mundle has come off the bench in eight of the last nine matches, but has yet to register a strike or assist in the top-flight of English football, and his playing time looks set to be reduced as the other two return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
It seems like Le Bris would allow him to depart on loan, which could be ideal for the Light Blues as they seek reinforcements in the final third.
His arrival could be the difference maker when it comes to the Bears lifting the Scottish Premiership title, so if he is available, it makes sense to bring him to Govan.
