Danny Rohl to step in after Djeidi Gassama transfer enquiry at Rangers
Danny Rohl may have a significant say in whether Rangers sell Djeidi Gassama in the winter transfer window.
Club Brugge have now enquired about Gassama, with the Jupiler Pro League outfit evaluating the conditions for a move.
The Gers signed the 22-year-old for £2.2million in the summer from Sheffield Wednesday, and he subsequently reunited with the German manager after Russell Martin’s sacking.
Gassama has been a key player under Rohl, and the Glaswegian outfit’s fans may not have to worry about his short-term future.
Djeidi Gassama January sale unlikely at Rangers
Joshua Barrie believes Gassama will stay at the Gers in the coming weeks.
While the journalist, who’s reliable about news from Ibrox, acknowledges that the young attacker will probably leave the Light Blues in the coming years, an immediate exit has been ruled out.
Rohl is expected to have a big say in what the future holds for the former Sheffield Wednesday star, with a January departure dismissed.
Speaking on The Rangers Review on 8 January, Barrie said, “I think Rohl’s voice would command a lot of attention in regards to a possible deal for Gassama. He would also need replacing, which makes me think… it’s unlikely that something happens in January, even if he’s probably not a player who’s not going to be at Rangers for four to five years.”
It isn’t surprising to see top teams keeping an eye on the Frenchman, but his contract in G51 runs until 2029.
Talks of Villarreal’s interest in Gassama have also been dismissed for now, but there will certainly be a tug of war for the attacker’s signature if he continues to live up to expectations in Scotland.
Danny Rohl already has Djeidi Gassama successor at Ibrox
Findlay Curits could leave Ibrox on loan in January, but the Scottish youngster undoubtedly has a future at the Gers.
The 19-year-old showed glimpses of his talent at Rangers at the start of the season, but Rohl has been reluctant to play the winger.
It would make sense for Curtis to further his development away from the Glaswegian outfit before returning to make a mark in Govan.
The Scotsman has shown the potential to become a regular in the Light Blues’ first team and may be the perfect replacement for Gassama, if and when he leaves.
