Danny Rohl confirms if Rangers new signings will make debut this weekend vs Aberdeen
Danny Rohl has hinted that Rangers could have some new players available for their match against Aberdeen on Sunday.
Rangers are closing in on the signing of Tochi Chukwuani as well as Tuur Rommens for a reported combined fee of £7million that will bolster the German head coach’s squad.
Connor Barron’s latest injury blow will have come as terrible news for Rohl, who may now need to use Chukwuani in midfield sooner than he expected.
Rangers will face Aberdeen once again this weekend, in another Scottish Premiership clash with the weight of title aspirations riding on it, and Rohl may be able to use his impending signings.
Danny Rohl’s matchday update on Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani
Jayden Meghoma’s future at Ibrox may look bleak given the news of Rommens’ potential arrival, but if anything, it should spur the left wing back on to improve.
Barron has been playing magnificently for the Bears recently, but his injury presents a massive opportunity for Chukwuani to start games right from the get-go.
While speaking to Sky Sports News on Friday, Rohl teased supporters when he didn’t rule out the possibility of Chukwuani and Rommens playing against Aberdeen.
Rohl said: “I cannot confirm now; let’s see what happens in the next 24 hours. I’m very positive right now, but you never know with transfers.
“I expect to see some new faces [against Aberdeen]; it’s looking good, but you never know.”
Regardless of the pair’s availability, Rohl must stress the importance of his side staying alert to Aberdeen’s biggest threat.
Aberdeen are a major threat from this one area
Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox on Tuesday, and the rematch this weekend poses the unusual prospect for either side to get a win over the other in a matter of days.
The Bears may have seen out victory comfortably on the surface of it, but the underlying numbers suggest that Aberdeen have the potential to harm Rohl’s side this time round.
Despite having just 36 per cent possession at Ibrox, the Dons managed to get 11 shots off, with six of them coming from various set-piece scenarios.
Pittodrie Stadium will no doubt be in fine voice against the Bears, with Aberdeen bound to get dangerous goal-scoring chances from throw ins, corners, and free kicks.
Every man has a part to play in getting a result over the line for Rangers on Sunday.
