Silas Andersen was recommended to Russell Martin at Rangers – Now Danny Rohl wants to sign him

Danny Rohl could be set to further prove his worth over Russell Martin as Rangers enter the January transfer window in fantastic form.

Rohl has made it clear he wants new signings for his Rangers side this month, applying pressure on Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises to accommodate a strong winter transfer window.

He will be keen to avoid a similar fate to that of Martin, who is now also losing his defence of what was previously thought to have been a poor summer of recruitment, as Rohl gets far more out of the likes of Youssef Chermiti, Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez.

He once again proved that was the case as Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 on Tuesday, moving to within three points of leaders Hearts.

Question marks remain over Rangers’ title credentials this season, but any doubts could be banished if Rohl gets what he wants on the transfer front over the next few weeks.

That’s where Silas Andersen comes in.

Russell Martin revealed to have been recommended Rangers target Silas Andersen

After completing the reverse fixture against Aberdeen on Sunday, Rangers won’t play another Scottish Premiership game until 25 January, with the Scottish Cup and Europa League returning.

This will give Rohl and his staff the ideal opportunity to take stock of what he has and add to his squad.

Rangers are leading the race to sign BK Hacken midfielder Andersen this month, with the 21-year-old having enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2025 in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

However, in a fresh revelation made by well-respected football consultant and scout Kai Watson via X, it’s been made clear that Andersen was recommended to Rangers and Martin in the summer.

Showing the message he claimed to have sent to someone within Rangers, Watson wrote: “Silas Andersen – BK Hacken – 21 – Only joined from Utrecht in January, but another that’s shown they’re better than the level they’re playing at.

“So calm and composed on the ball, can beat the press and break the lines. Won’t be long till he’s a full Danish international in my eyes.”

Andersen’s 2025 stats by the numbers

Judging from what Andersen has been doing in Sweden in 2025, Rohl won’t make the same mistake Martin did this winter and will really press for his Rangers signature.

Despite playing in a side that finished 10th of 16 in Allsvenskan, Andersen was superb, making 26 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

The versatile central midfielder – who can also operate in central defence – created 26 chances, played 1,599 successful passes, completed 25 successful dribbles, won 52 fouls and 192 duels, made 84 tackles and 181 recoveries, all of which led the league among his positional rivals as per FotMob.

Capped for Denmark across all youth levels, he’s evidently one of the country’s most highly-rated youngsters in his position, and looks set for senior stardom on the international stage in the future.

Therefore, should he be up for a move to Ibrox this month, then securing his services should be a no-brainer for Rohl and Rangers.

Rohl has finally seen the light that Martin clearly didn’t at the time.
